Pokemon GO! Book Tag

pokemon-go-book-tag

GUYS. As soon as I saw this tag I HAD to. HAD. TO. If you don’t know the latest craze to sweep, well, a portion of the world, it is Pokemon GO!, a game where we can finally all realize our childhood dreams and become Pokemon masters! So, why not combine two loves of mine, books and Pokemon? This tag was created by Aentee @ Read at Midnight and I’m so excited to do this tag!

*All graphics were made by Aentee and are free to use.
**Disclaimer: Pokemon GO! belongs to Niantic and Nintendo.

pokemon-tag-01starters

Of course, I didn’t know about the Pikachu starter until way after the fact, and I had no idea what I was doing when I first started the app, so I ended up with a Squirtle when I wanted a Bulbasaur. But that’s okay!

As for what started my love of reading? I have no idea! I just know that I’ve always loved to read. I would read children’s science books as a kid, beautiful story books, and more.

pokemon-tag02pikachu

Again: Pikachu starter never happened. And I still haven’t found one in the wild. One day!

Hmm, I’m not big on classics at all… I guess I’m going to say the same as Aentee and say Harry Potter. Even though I haven’t read the whole series, it’s definitely a modern classic that has changed the world of reading forever, I think.

pokemon-tag-03-zubat

ZUBAT. ZUBAT EVERYWHERE. Same with the damn Pidgey and Rattata.

I think Passenger by Alexandra Bracken is definitely one I lost interest in because it was everywhere at the beginning of this year. I heard a lot of mixed reviews on it and, personally, I’m half way through and really bored with it. So, yeah, interest is gone.

pokemon-tag-04-ditto

I have not heard of or seen a Ditto anywhere in the game yet, but I hope to one day!

When I read Shadow and Bone by Leigh Barudgo recently I felt that it followed a lot of the same kinds of tropes I see in fantasy YA books: dark, brooding love interest; not strong female character, but gains strength in multiple ways; childhood love interest. I mean, I do enjoy all of these tropes! But, like I stated in my review, it didn’t completely do it for me but I still really enjoyed it.

pokemon-tag-05-snorlax

My husband has encountered Snorlax multiple times and STILL hasn’t caught one. Poor guy.

Have you heard of Outlander? It’s a ginormous book that’s full of a lot of history and story and stuff and I’m interested in it, but I don’t know if I’ll ever start reading it because it’s such a time commitment.

pokemon-tag06-gengar

I’ve caught a few Ghastly, but I haven’t seen a Gengar yet!

My beloved A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas has kept me up late at night because I NEEDED to know what happened next. Every page, every chapter, I needed to know what happened next. It was a miracle I was even able to function when I wasn’t reading it.

pokemon-tag07-nidokingqueen

I’m working on trying to evolve my Nidorina and Nidorino into Nidoking/queen. I love these Pokemon!

Oh man, where do I even begin? Here’s a few: Feyre/Rhysand, Aelin/Rowan, Karou/Akiva, Zuzana/Mik, Sofia/Gideon, Lee/Flynn, Lilac/Tarver, Blue/Gansey, Ronan/Adam…. And the list can go on and on and on.

pokemon-tag08-rapidash

I caught a Ponyta as soon as I hit level 10 very close to my work, but I have yet to see a Rapidash.

Ooh, the Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi is very fire-hot and fast-paced! The first book was a little eh, but the other two were very intriguing and fun and way better.

pokemon-tag09-eevee

Eevee is one of my top five favorite Pokemon! My number one is Growlithe, then Cubone, then Eevee! (Then Sylveon and Phanpy.) I’ve caught a bunch and I have all the Eeveelutions that are out so far.

I’m pretty sure I’ll forever see spinoffs of the Shadowhunter realms by Cassandra Clare, and I’m perfectly okay for that. I need to catch up, for sure…

pokemon-tag14-magikarp

Yes, my useless friend, I will forever love you.

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson was definitely amazing! I was taken aback by how amazing it was. Also, the manga series Orange by Ichigo Takako was beautiful and incredible, too.

pokemon-tag12-legendary

I can’t wait for the opportunity to catch these guys!

I’m still excited to read the next Throne of Glass novel, of course! I miss the characters and the world and I can’t wait to see what’s waiting for them next in the world. I’m doing really bad with the readalong, but I’m going to keep trudging forward!

pokemon-tag15mew-mewtwo

Need. Both. Especially Mew.

Hmmm… I do have a few collector’s editions of some books I love, but I don’t know what other collector’s editions there are out there! But I’m sure I’d find one eventually. But, if we’re talking clothing, I’d really like anything Hufflepuff related just to get my collection started because I’m a proud Hufflepuff! Also, more ACOMAF/TOG fan things, thanks.

pokemon-tag10-egg

Must. Walk. More.

Hmm… I’m not sure! I’m kind of behind on the times with what’s coming out as debut novels lately. Any suggestions as to what I should keep my eye out for?

pokemon-tag11-lure-module

I was finally shown how to use one of these and I felt like an idiot for not realizing sooner.

Have you met my queen, Sarah J. Maas? And Laini Taylor. And Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner.

pokemon-tag13-server-down

It’s the new blue screen of death!

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas, for sure! I can’t waaaaaiiittt. OH! Also The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson! And A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir! SO EXCITEDDDDD!

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT! Ah, I love how Pokemon GO! is changing so many lives and making the communities come back together again and it’s just so cool! I love being able to live out my dream of becoming a Pokemon master!

I Tag

All of you beautiful people that are into Pokemon! Do it!

I’m on Team Mystic, what team are you on? Which Pokemon starter did you pick? What level are you on now? I think I’m level 13. Are you excited to become a Pokemon master?

Sailor Moon Book Tag

sailormoonbooktag

I’m so excited to be doing this tag because Sailor Moon has been one of my most favorite things for as long as I can remember. As soon as I saw this tag I knew I just HAD to do it. This tag was created by Kristin @ Super Space Chick, Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books, Cee @ The Novel Hermit, Cristina @ Girl in the Pages, and Sierra @ SDavReads and is the introduction post to a month long Summer of Sailor Scouts that they’ll be hosting!

Moon: A book that makes you hungry

sailormoontoalltheboysivelovedbefore

For this I’m picking To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before because there is a lot of cooking involved in this duology and some of it is baked goods like cookies and pastries, and others are more ethnic foods from different countries. It makes me want to try a bunch of different things!
Mercury: A book that features science and technology

sailormercurythesebrokenstars

Definitely the Starbound trilogy because in each novel there is new technology, different themes, and so much more to explore and learn from. From gadets that can make whole islands seemingly disappear, to hyper space travel, there is no shortage of what to expect from this stellar sci-fi trilogy. (See what I did there?)
Venus: A book that makes you want to play video games

sailorvenussagavol1

I honestly had the hardest time picking a book for this because I play video games as is, but I’m going to go with Saga because there’s a lot of action and sequences that take place that are reminiscent of video game play.
Mars: A book inspired by mythology or folklore

sailormarsthewrathandthedawn

The Wrath and the Dawn definitely has elements of folklore even if it’s a retelling, but it’s got a lot of elements of folklore in it, in my opinion. Magic, flying carpets, curses… you name it!
Jupiter: A book that gave you strong feelings

sailorjupiteracourtofmistandfury

A Court of Mist and Fury, hands down, gave me such strong feelings while I was reading it. There were giggles, gasps, feelings of dread, hope, love, and more that I felt while reading this book. Oh man. So good. (P.S. Jupiter is my favorite Sailor Scout!)
Saturn: A post apocalyptic book you love

sailorsaturndivergent

Really the only “post apocalyptic” book I can think of that I’ve read and enjoyed was Divergent. I’m not big on dytopian/post apoc things, so I don’t really have anything else to go by.
Pluto: A time travel book

sailorplutopassenger

The only one I can think of right now is Passenger and I’m not exactly a big fan of it. I haven’t finished it and I’m not sure I will, but there’s a huge element of time travel in the book that takes place and the time aspect spans hundreds of years.
Uranus: A book featuring elemental magic

sailoruranustruthwitch

Truthwitch definitely comes to mind because there are a lot of different types of elemental magic, such as water, wind, earth, fire, but also magic like truth, blood, thread, and more.
Neptune: A book featuring music

sailorneptuneeleanorandpark

Eleanor & Park has music! The two characters share music with one another as they start to fall for one another and it’s adorable and sweet and I love it.
Tuxedo Mask: A book with masquerades or hidden identities

Tuxedo_Maskdaughterofsmokeandbone

I think I’m going to have to go with Daughter of Smoke & Bone for this one because there is a scene in the first book where it’s based around a masquerade and it’s also one of my favorite scenes in the series, so definitely this one.
Rini/Chibi Moon: A favorite middle grade book

sailorchibimoonharrypotter1

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is definitely my favorite middle grade book! I don’t read MG that often, but I can say with certainty that I really enjoy the HP series (even if I haven’t finished it yet!).
Luna, Artemis & Diana: A book for animal lovers

artemislunadianachissweethome

I’m going to have to go with the manga Chi’s Sweet Home because it’s a bunch of short stories about a sweet little house cat and it’s adorable and also an anime and just go watch it or read it. So. Cute.

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

Who is your favorite Sailor Scout? Which book do you recommend for animal lovers? Also, what book gave you strong feelings?

Mean Girls Book Tag

Mean Girls Book Tag

I’m here today with a fun book tag and that is the Mean Girls Book Tag created by Sarah-Jane @ TheBookLife! If you’ve never seen this movie, stop what you’re doing and watch it because it is amazing and so funny and so full of stereotypes and…oh man. It’s a classic. I was floating around the blogisphere (as you do) and I stumbled upon it on Lauren @ Bookmark Lit‘s blog and remembered how I had seen it on Booktube last year and wanted to join in.

This will also probably be the most gif heavy post I write.

So, let’s just jump into the tag!

1 . “It’s pronounced like ‘Cady.'” | Which fictional character’s name did you get completely wrong?

cady

I feel like when A Court of Thorns and Roses first came out everyone got Feyre’s and Rhysand’s names wrong. Oh man, I know I did. I didn’t know how to pronounce Feyre’s at all… I think I said “fay-err” and for Rhysand I said “rhye-sand” like a lot of people did. Fail.

2. “She doesn’t even go here!” | Which character would you like to in a fictional world from another book or series?

I’d love to see how Jane from My Lady Jane reacts to being in the world of any contemporary, really. Because she’s set in a time period where women are seen as lesser than men and that they have to wear dresses and act a certain way, etc, she’d probably have a conniption seeing characters like Anna from Anna and the French Kiss wearing jeans and publicly kissing boys and such. I’m laughing just thinking about it!

3. “On Wednesdays we wear pink!” | Repetition. Repetition. Which book gave you deja vu of another book whilst reading it?

pink

I got this feeling a lot when I was reading Red Queen, I think. I felt like I had read the kinds of tropes and storyline before, even though it was obviously her own world and such.

4. “You all have to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores.” | Which book gave you the complete opposite of girl power feels?

whores

I’m really trying hard to think of a book that didn’t give me these feels when it was obvious there was supposed to be those feels, but I can’t think of anything! *stares at bookshelves* I honestly don’t know!

5. “You go, Glen Coco!” | Name a character you felt like you wanted to cheer on whilst reading.

coco

I remember actually cheering OUT LOUD when I was reading A Court of Mist and Fury for Feyre because YOU SLAY GIRL. YOU GO, FEYRE ARCHERON.

6. “Get in loser, we’re going shopping.” | How long do you typically spend at a book shop?

shopping

Well, it depends. If I really want to kill time and look around a lot, around an hour or more. I know what I want then I can be in and out within ten minutes.

7. “It’s not my fault you’re like, in love with me or something!” | Which character would have to get out a restraining order on you, if they were real?

shocked

I’m pretty sure the entire Night Court in ACOMAF would have to get a restraining order against me because CAN I JUST LIVE THERE PLEASE!? Like, RIGHT NOW!? I want to be where the people are…

8. “I can’t help it that I’m popular.” | Which overhyped book were you cautious about reading?

I think I was cautious going into An Ember in the Ashes because there was A LOT of hype surrounding it when it came out but OH MY GOSH it blew me out of the water! I loved it and am so happy that I read it when I did because it was sooo worth it.

9. “She’s a life ruiner. She ruins people’s lives.” | We all love Regina George. Name a villain you just love to hate.

Even though I haven’t read this far into the series yet, based on the movies, I definitely love to hate (or mostly just hate hate) Professor Umbridge from the Harry Potter series. I’m pretty sure she is one of the most hated of all book villains of ever, but she’s the first one that always comes to mind even though I haven’t read about her yet. In the movies, though, she is so. Annoying. She makes me cringe when I think about her.

10. “I’m not like a regular mom; I’m a cool mom.” | Your favorite fictional parents.

mom

I didn’t think this would be such a difficult question, but I’m going to go with Simon’s parents from Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. They were so accepting of their son who comes out as gay, and they just seemed like very warm, loving parents.

11. “That is so fetch!” | Which book or series would you love to catch on?

fetch

I quite love the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series and I wish more people were talking about it even though it finished about two years ago. There’s so much action, romance, lore, tales, beautiful writing… It’s so amazing! Also I definitely want the Off-Campus series to catch on because it’s so addicting and fun!

12. “How do I even begin to explain Regina George?” | Describe your ideal character to read about.

regina

Oooooh, this is a fun question. The kinds of characters I love reading about, as divided by gender:

  • Females: Intelligent, brave, a bit stubborn, knows what she wants, isn’t afraid to speak her mind, gives it her all, and is kind and funny. Characters like Safiya and Iseult from Truthwitch, Karou from Daughter of Smoke & Bone, and Lee from This Shattered World come to mind.
  • Males: Humorous, kind, fun, strong, brave, snarky, not afraid to show emotion, carries himself with confidence, and has a soft spot but also are kind of brooding (yes, I went there). Characters like Kaden from Kiss of Deception, Aeduan from Truthwitch, and Warner from Shatter Me come to mind.

13. “I just have a lot of feelings.” | What do you do when a book gives you a bad case of “the feels?”

Sit there and let it sink in and contemplate LIFE, because let’s be real, what else is there to do? Also I might go onto tumblr and search for ALL THINGS relating to that book and the characters. The last one I did this for was ACOMAF because OMG IT WAS LIKE A FEELS TRAIN JUST HIT ME AND TOOK ME FOR A RIDE.

14. “Nice wig, Janice, what’s it made of?” “Your mom’s chest hair!” | Which characters one liners would you love to claim for your own?

Oh oh! I know the one I’d pick from The Rose and the Dagger, said by Shazi: “If I had a fireball, I’d send it straight between your legs. But I worry there would be little to burn.”

BURRRNNNNN. I love it.

15. “Boo, you whore.” | Name a time a character’s decision has made you roll your eyes.

burn

I know that there are characters that made stupid decisions all the time and I’d roll my eyes or shake my head and call them an idiot, but I can’t think of any specific one.

And that’s it for the tag! Oh man, I love Mean Girls, it’s seriously one of the best movies from my generation and oh so quotable.

loveya

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

Which character did you cheer on while reading? Who is a character you love to hate? And which one liner would you want to claim for your own?

Hamilton Book Tag

hamiltonposterYou have no idea how excited I am to do this tag. Once Hamilton was introduced to me, I was hooked. And it’s only been about a week, but it hit me pretty hard.

For those that live under a rock, Hamilton is a Broadway musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton. Now, that may sound boring, BUT IT’S NOT. The music is a mix of hip-hop/rap/pop, the lyrics are easy to understand (mostly), the way the songs are sung are glorious, and you get to learn a little bit of history through it! It’s glorious. Go buy it and listen to it.

This tag was originally created by Maureen Keavy and there are 10 questions and then 6 bonus questions, so let’s get on to the tag!

1. The Room Where It Happens: Book world you would put yourself in

I’d want to be in either the Throne of Glass world OR the A Court of Mist and Fury world. I mean… I want to be with my favorite characters, and these places have magic, so either I’d want to be where the magic is or be a faerie. Either way will be enough for me.
2. The Schuyler Sisters: Underrated Female Character

I think that Pauline from the Remnant Chroicles by Mary E. Peason is underrated because she goes through a lot not only to protect her princess and best friend, but she had a secret that she held for months before it couldn’t be a secret any more. And though she doesn’t want to cause confrontation or anything, she knows right from wrong and she knows when things do need to be said. I think she’s just a very smart young lady with a great heart.
3. My Shot: A character that goes after what they want and doesn’t let anything stop them

Have you heard of Richard Gansey III? That boy is one determined little bugger and boy, he won’t stop at anything until he’s found Glendower. It’s quite amazing just how determined he is. (P.S. This is my favorite song from the play.)
4. Stay Alive: A character you wish was still alive [warn for spoilers!]

SPOILER: If you want to know my sorrow for who I wish was still alive, highlight after the colon: Rahim from The Rose and the Dagger. MY HEART. SO SAD. I almost CRIED.
5. Burn: The most heartbreaking end to a relationship you’ve ever read [warn for spoilers!]

I’m honestly having trouble thinking of one. I mean… I’ve read plenty of books where couples break up due to some stupid reason or good reasons or whatever reason, but they more often than not end up back together, so….
6. You’ll Be Back: Sassiest villain

The first villain that comes to mind is Valentine from The Mortal Instruments series. I think he’s pretty sassy sometimes, but often more serious than not.
7. The Reynolds Pamphlet – A book with a twist that you didn’t see coming [warn for spoilers!]

SPOILER: All of the next couple of sentences will be in white font, so highlight if you want to see the twist: CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT ACOMAF AND THE TWIST AT THE END. I mean, WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K TAMLIN. SO UNCOOL.
8. Non-stop: A series you marathoned

The Off Campus series by Elle Kennedy. So addicting. So much sex. So much drama. So goooooood.
9. Satisfied: Favorite book with multiple POVs

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard was an awesome book told from four points of view: Safiya, Iseult, Aeduan, and Merik. My favorite characters were Iseult and Aeduan, and oh man, so much is going to go down. Yaaaasssss.
10. Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story: A book/series you feel like will be remembered throughout history

Honestly, I think that Harry Potter will forever be remembered. It’s such a huge part of people’s lives when they were kids – or adults – and I think that it’ll just be passed down for a while to come.

Bonus Questions

1. Helpless: A relationship you were pulling for from the very start

Blue and Gansey. My babies. I love them so much. Also Vhalla and Aldrick because, let’s be serious, they’re an amazing couple. Literal power couple. And there’s plenty more I could list, but some of them I didn’t really see as a couple until the second book, so…
2. Ten Duel Commandments: Favorite fight scene

Let’s just talk about Manon and Aelin’s fight, shall we? Manon always kicks ass, and the whole scene was just intense. INTENSE. Oh man, I want to reread that scene again just because it was awesome.
3. Say No To This: Guilty pleasure read

I’m pretty sure the Off Campus series definitely qualifies as a guilty pleasure. *fans self*
4. What Comes Next: A series you wish had more books

I want to forever read about the Raven Boys. There’s just so much more adventure to be had!
5. Right Hand Man – Favorite BROTP

Karou and Zuzana 5ever. They are friendship goals, oh man.
6. What’d I Miss: A book or series you were late to reading

Harry Potter. I didn’t start reading the books until I was 20, and I still haven’t finished the series five years later. There’s just soooo much hype around them, and now that I’m on the fourth book, they just keep getting bigger and bigger. There’s so much pressure, man!

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

Have you seen/listened to Hamilton? What’s your favorite song? Who do you think is the sassiest villain? Also, what book or series were you late to reading compared to a lot of other people?

#WritersLife Tag

Hey peeps, I’m here with another tag post as I haven’t done one in a while and I thought this one was really fun. I found it on Cait @ Paper Fury’s blog, but it’s been floating around and I don’t know who made the original (so if you know, please tell me!). It’s a tag that focuses on some fun things in a writer’s life, so… here we go!

Write Fuel: What do you eat/drink while writing?

Whatever I’m in the mood for, but if I’m in the zone I’ll go for a long period of time without even being really hungry or thirsty. I like that distraction because then I don’t eat because I’m bored – I’m usually quite distracted!

Write Sounds: What do you listen to while writing?

I like to listen to Lindsey Stirling as the violin without someone singing to them helps me to focus. Even songs that have singing don’t bother me much if I’m in the zone enough. But otherwise I prefer the quiet – it’s easier to think in and I usually get a lot done that way.

Write Vice: What’s your most debilitating distraction?

Have you met my friend, Internet? He’s a pretty big, distracting fellow, and I think that he’s kind of awesome, but also really annoying at the same time. But, I love him, so I guess I’ll keep him around.

Write Horror: What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you while writing?

Hmm… I think perhaps I’ve had whole files just up and disappear on me before. I honestly don’t know. I try to block out bad memories as much as possible.

Write Joy: What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you while writing OR how do you celebrate small victories?

I’m going to do the thing Cait did and split this into two different answers:

Best Thing: I think the first time I completed NaNoWriMo was amazing. It was the first time I ever wrote a novel to completion. It was a huge feat for me and I’m really happy that I accomplished it.

Celebrate: I buy books! Because, I mean, what else am I supposed to do? Sometimes I’ll buy chocolate or binge watch shows, but mostly I just get books.

Write Crew: Who do you communicate with or not communicate with while writing?

I usually follow the hashtag #amwriting on Twitter and just post general updates, problems I’m having, funny things, and my progress. But otherwise, I don’t really talk to anyone about what I’m writing. I have a hard enough time summarizing what my story is about; I don’t know how I’d hold full conversations about writing with people.

Write Secret: What’s your writing secret to success or hidden flaw?

More double questions! So…

Writing Secret: Write the story you want! Honestly, if you want to write about a space pirate who falls in love with an alien and they make their home on Mars, surrounded by their pet rocks from Earth, then you do you, boo boo! If you’re really into contemporary, then write it! If you’re into fantasy – write it!

Hidden Flaw: I always compare myself to others and I KNOW I SHOULDN’T DO THAT. But I think every writer does it, no matter what stage of the game they’re in. I get it in my head that my writing isn’t good enough, or my story sounds too much like one I’ve read, or that no one will like it, but really… how do I know those things? I don’t! And I shouldn’t compare myself, and neither should you.

Write-spiration: What always makes you productive?

What is this “productivity” you speak of? I’m seriously horrible at sticking to writing, and I shouldn’t make excuses, but working full time tires out my brain and makes me want to watch anime for hours on end.

Write Peeve: What’s one thing that writers do (or you do) that’s annoying?

Hmm… I can’t think of one?

Write Words: Share one sentence from a project, past or present.

Alrighty, this is from the story I started in Camp NaNoWriMo last year and I’ve been sharing bits of one of my characters, Abby, in a few of the Beautiful People posts.

And instead of one sentence, I’m going to share a small excerpt from Abby’s point of view:

Her pack slammed against her leg as she didn’t hesitate as she lifted her foot up to the stirrup of the Colonel’s horse’s saddle and swung her leg over, kicking the stable boy’s hand from the reigns and grabbing them as she kicked the horse’s sides and urged the horse on. The beast instantly broke into a fast canter and drove her out and away from the men.

The wind tore through her hair and the fast pace of the horse just didn’t feel fast enough. She continuously urged the horse on, pushing him into a gallop, the only sound filling her ears the rushing of the wind and the gallop of the hooves on the hard ground.

She didn’t bother looking back as her pulse continued to race through her veins and a smile spread across her face. She laughed and sang as she made her way down the path and over the bridge that overlooked the river. She felt free. For the first time in her whole life, she felt what it was truly like to be free.

And there you have it! A sneak peek at a part of my unedited first draft! Woo! Even I didn’t remember this scene! (It’s seriously been 5ever. Like… I really need to finish writing the first draft.)

And that’s all for the tag! If you want to join in and do this tag, please do!

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

What are some of your writerly flaws? How do you celebrate the small victories? Do you need peace and quiet to write, or are you comfortable with noise?
