Bout of Books 14 Day 2

So yesterday (Tuesday) was day two for Bout of Books, and I didn’t really read that much because, well, it was my birthday and I was busy all day. Heck, I’m going to be busy all day today, too, but I’m going to try to find time to read a bit.

My progress yesterday consisted of this:

  • The Final Empire: 0 pages
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: 0 pages
  • A Thousand Pieces of You: 0 pages
  • A Game of Thrones: 10 pages
  • Forbidden: 18 pages (this wasn’t on my TBR for this readathon, but I wanted to start reading it to see what it’s about)

So I read a total of 28 pages, which was two chapters between two books. Not too bad. At least I’m keeping with my goal to read at least one chapter from each book I read. So yay for that!

I’m finding that reading multiple books at the same time is 1) nice in a way because I can read more and get books done (sort of) faster, but I also find that 2) I don’t really remember a lot from what I read previously. I mean, I can remember more as I read more into the next chapter or skim the last few sentences of the previous chapter, but I’m using this as a test run to see if I want to just be a “one book at a time” reader or a “multi-book at a time” reader.

Also I participated in the challenge that took place yesterday, which was like a form of a book scavenger hunt. What we had to do was:

  1. Find a book that begins with “B” (for mine I chose “Blood Promise” by Richelle Mead)
  2. A book you’re planning to read/currently reading for Bout of Books (for this it’s, well, A Game of Thrones, HP & the Goblet of Fire, and The Final Empire)
  3. Blue Book(s) (heheheh…heh.. yeah, that’s not even all of my blue books)
  4. Books from your favorite genre (my fave is fantasy, and there’s a few in there)
  5. A book on your TBR shelf, or your full TBR shelf (I put “Days of Blood and Starlight” by Laini Taylor at the top, but almost all of the blue books are on my TBR)

I was crying on the inside because I was afraid my stack of babies was going to fall over.

So, yeah! That’s my Bout of Books day 2 update. I’m enjoying this round of the readathon, for sure, and I’m excited to keep going and to keep on participating in the challenges and whatnot.

How’s your reading coming along? Have you participated in any of the challenges? Do you read multiple books at once, or are you a one book at a time reader? Let me know!

Themeathon Week 2 Wrap-Up & Week Three Beginning

Hey, we made it through week two of Themeathon!

Week Two Wrap-Up

thewrathandthedawnThis week was a tough week for me and so I didn’t manage to finish the book I was reading, but I’ll keep reading it until I do and all that jazz. This will cut into the book I was planning on reading for week three as there is also another book I’ve been dying to read since I got it last week, so we’ll see if I actually get to this book.

P.S. I’m also in a reading slump.

The book I was supposed to finish reading was “The Wrath & the Dawn” by Renee Ahdieh, but I am only just over 25% of the way through as of this moment, and so I will continue to read it until I finish it.

Dangerous Love: For this week’s theme this entire book’s plotline fits the bill because it’s about a girl who volunteer’s to become the next queen because the king has a new wife every night who is supposedly killed and then he takes a new one.

I, unfortunately, do not have a poem for you because I haven’t finished the book and therefore I don’t know the love interest very well. I can gather a few things about him, but I don’t know enough to write a full out poem. Next week I’ll include a poem in my wrap-up for the week.

Week Three: July 17-24

harrypottergobletoffireIt’s all about the villains you love to hate in this week’s themeathon challenge, and so my pick for the week was to finish “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by J.K. Rowling. I am about 14% of the way through right now, which isn’t far, and it’s a really hefty book so I’m not sure that I’ll be reading it this week.

We all know the villain(s) we love to hate in this series, right?

Mini-Challenges:

  • Describe the book you chose with emojis on Twitter.
  • Write a haiku of the villain in the book you’re reading and share it on your blog/Twitter/wherever.
  • Watch a book-to-movie adaptation of said book, if there is one.

If I’m able to, I will do my best to complete all of the mini-challenges, but I’m not sure that I’ll even get to this book this week. Fingers crossed I will!

The Twitter reading sprint will be:

  • Wednesday, July 22nd @ 3:00PM EST until 6:00PM EST
  • I should actually be able to make it for this round.

Let me know what you’re planning on reading this week, I’d love to hear!

Themeathon Week 2 Begins & Week One Wrap-Up

Well, Themeathon week one ended at midnight, and so begins week two! It’s been a slow first week, but I hope that it’ll pick up as the month progresses.

Week One Wrap-Up

rebelspringDuring the week, I was having trouble finding time and motivation to read, but I did manage to actually finish the book I chose with two and half hours left of week one! Yay!

So the book I completed was “Rebel Spring” by Morgan Rhodes. I did a late review last night, which you can check out here.

My Daring Hero/ine pick was Princess Cleo from this series. She’s had to endure so much in the short time we’ve gotten to know her that I really sympathize with her, but she also shows a fierceness and a bravado that doesn’t falter easily. I definitely think she’s braver and stronger than anyone gives her credit for.

In reading this book I also completed one of the mini-challenges for the week, which was a book with multiple points of view! (And it was 401 pages, so it was literally JUST over the 350-400 page mark challenge!)

Week Two: July 9-16

thewrathandthedawnAnd today begins week two! For week two the theme is Dangerous Love. For this, my chosen book is “The Wrath and the Dawn” by Renee Ahdieh. I’m very excited to read this book and I think that it’ll definitely hold dangerous love as the synopsis says that a prince takes a bride every night, and no one ever sees those women again. But one young woman is determined to beat that statistic and to live past dawn of the next day. Can she?

Sounds dangerous, right? So yeah, this is my read for the week.

And here are the mini-challenges!

  • Read a book with over 450 pages.
  • Write a poem to the main love interest in the book you chose (any type of prose/rhyme scheme/format).
  • Listen to an audiobook.

I’ll be writing a poem about the main love interest and sharing it with you all in the wrap-up. Ohhh yesss.

The Twitter Sprint for this week will be hosted on @SummerReadathon and will be:

  • Tuesday, July 14th @ 5:00PM EST until 7:00PM EST

I hope to see some of you there during the sprints!

What are you reading for this week? What kind of dangerous love are you going to explore? What mini-challenges might you do? Let me know!

Themeathon Announcement

Hey everyone, so I just wanted to make an announcement letting you know that I’ll be hosting a month long read-a-thon! Woo! A few people on Twitter seemed interested, and maybe this will motivate me to read more since I’ll be the one hosting it, so why not!?

Anyway, what is the themeathon read-a-thon you ask?

Each week in July will host a different theme. So the goal is to read at least one book that fits that theme. Pretty simple, right? I mean, that’s one book per week. I think that’s doable, don’t you?

There will also be mini-challenges to go along with the main challenge, so you can set your own goals for what you want to accomplish during this read-a-thon.

Also, let me just say that this is a relaxed read-a-thon. Do not feel obligated to complete every challenge or participate in Twitter sprints or anything.

To get a better idea of what I’m talking about, here are the dates and the corresponding challenges:

July 1-8

Theme: Daring Hero/Heroine

  • Read at least one book that has a daring/courageous hero/ine in it. Example: Katniss from The Hunger Games.

Mini-Challenges:

  • Read a book with multiple points of view (two people or more). Example: These Broken Stars.
  • A book that’s between 350-400 pages.
  • A book that isn’t a novel (such as a memoir or non-fiction story).

July 9-16

Theme: Dangerous Love

  • Read at least one book with an element of dangerous love in it. This can either be environmental or personal. Example: Juliette and Adam from Shatter Me.

Mini-Challenges:

  • Read a book with over 450 pages.
  • Write a poem to the main love interest in the book you chose (any type of prose/rhyme scheme/format).
  • Listen to an audiobook.

July 17-24

Theme: Villain You Love to Hate

  • Read at least one book with a villain you love to hate, aka a villain so horrible you want to toss them off a cliff. Example: Valentine from the Mortal Instruments series.

Mini-Challenges:

  • Describe the book you chose with emojis on Twitter.
  • Write a haiku of the villain in the book you’re reading and share it on your blog/Twitter/wherever.
  • Watch a book-to-movie adaptation of said book, if there is one.

July 25-31

Theme: Only Standalones

  • No series, no duologies, no trilogies. It’s all about the standalones this week. Example: Fangirl.

Mini-Challenges:

  • Read a standalone that’s not a contemporary.
  • Read a standalone over 400 pages.
  • A diverse read! Example: Main character is gay, religious, biracial, etc.

Okay, so those are all of the weeks and all of the challenges to go along with it. Again, do not feel obligated to complete every challenge. I mean, you can if you want, but that’s up to you.

Also, let me know if you’ll be participating by either commenting down below or using the hashtag #themeathon on Twitter/Instagram. You can create your own Themeathon TBR post and all that so I can see what you have planned! I’ll post my own TBR closer to the read-a-thon.

I’ll host InLinkz on my own posts each week so those of you who participate can share and see what other people are reading and all that. I’ll be doing weekly wrap-ups so you can see my progress and all that, and I’d love to see yours.

I’ll also be hosting Twitter sprints each week so we can all read as much as we can together. I’ll be hosting them on @SummerReadathon, so be sure to check them out there.

Here’s a schedule for Twitter sprints:

  • Week 1: Monday, July 6th @ 6:00PM EST until 8:00PM EST
  • Week 2: Tuesday, July 14th @ 5:00PM EST until 7:00PM EST
  • Week 3: Wednesday, July 22nd @ 3:00PM EST until 6:00PM EST
  • Week 4: Thursday, July 30th @ 6:00PM EST until 10:00PM EST

I’ll post reminders at the beginning of each starting week, don’t worry!
