Quarterly Reading Wrap Up | Spring 2019

Hey guys! How’s it going? So I’ve been thinking about how I can be more active in the bookish community, and one way I thought about it a quarterly reading wrap up! I read a lot of webtoons and comics, and I’m slowly picking up the novel reading habit again, but instead of doing monthly wrap ups, I’d do quarterly and talk about the titles I’ve been actively reading or given a chance.

So quarter one was filled with a bunch of webtoons and some bookish goodness, and I’ve liked the majority of what I’ve read. So let’s jump into the webtoons first, shall we? I’ll show my ratings as I go, even though most of these series aren’t done yet for the webtoons.

Webtoons

All of these webtoons can be found on LINE Webtoons.

Dogged by pain and misfortune from the very beginning, Shin-Ae decides she wants nothing to do with people nor anything to do with romance. Although content with her unsocial, boring, loveless existence, her lifestyle is challenged after she ruins an unsuspecting strangers’ clothes.

I Love Yoo by Quimchee is one of my favorite webtoons to date. It’s one I’ve kept up with for a long time and I can’t wait until it picks back up again! (Quimchee is taking a well-deserved break right now.) But there’s been ALL KINDS of drama and one big reveal that will be coming up but was sort of introduced and OOF I NEED TO KNOW WHO SHE IS. And also: new best boy??? I’m 10000% here for it.

Witness what the gods do…after dark. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Stylish and immersive, this is one of mythology’s greatest stories — The Taking of Persephone — as it’s never been told before.

Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe is my new favorite obsession. Not only is the artwork super different and beautiful (like each character is represented by a different color and it’s lovely), but the story itself is amazing. I love, love, love myths and so the retelling of one of my favorites is just pure perfection. There’s cute moments, frustrating moments, sad moments. It’s a great story and I highly recommend it.

Seven boys. Best friends. Their fates intertwined through the good times together, but also the tough times, as they have gone their separate ways and suffered greatly as a result. When all is almost lost for these boys, one is given a special chance to go back in time and help his friends fix the mistakes that led them down this path. He’ll do anything to save them, but can he? Or is he too late?

Save Me by Big Hit Ent. & LICO is about BTS and, being a BTS fan, how could I say no? I mean, I was saying no at the beginning, but then I couldn’t stop my curiosity and now I’m hooked because it tells the story between their music videos and why certain things happened. It’s super good so far. If you’re a BTS fan and you’re trying to piece together the mystery of their music videos, then this comic might be a good read for you.

Sori is a special young girl – kind, caring and principled well beyond her years. Unfortunately, these are NOT the personality traits generally celebrated in middle school – especially Sori’s, where she’s bullied mercilessly for defending the defenseless until she herself becomes a target. To escape, she transfers to a new school where the same old problems begin to play out all over again – that is until a mysterious trail of letters leads Sori on a magical scavenger hunt through the hidden world that exists right below the surface of her new middle school. The mail trail is the work an anonymous guardian angel, whose mission seems to be to provide a soft landing for Sori at her new school. But who is this person? And why did he choose her? With each letter, secrets are revealed and bonds are formed – as Sori learns about friendship, flora, fauna and finding the good in people in this strange new environment.

Your Letter by Hyeon A Cho is SUCH a great story so far. Seriously, not only is the artwork lovely af, but the story itself is just so pure and something that I didn’t realize I’d been wanting until I read it. Of course I’m hoping for a romance to blossom between the two main characters, but also I love how their friendship started over this one boy. It’s sweet and sentimental, but also has consequences of actions and it’s just… Just read it.

★★★★☆

Getting crushed by your crush. Coming out to your parents. Learning that your sister is your biggest dating rival. High school sure does have its share of twists, turns and moments of high drama. To get through it all with your smile and sanity intact, you’re going to need some friends. Really good friends. Friends like Johnny, Mariel, Gaby and Martina who, one way or another, will find a way to get through their teenage years together.

The Four of Them by Mai Hirschfeld_ is a coming of age story about four teens just being teens and dealing with relationships, whether they be romantic, familial, or platonic, school life, emotions, and more. It’s another sweet series that I’m really loving and the artwork is so lovely! And, as the description says, there is drama and I’m really interested to see how the different threads of drama unfold as time goes and how far into their teenaged lives we get to see.

★★★★☆

Edith is not your typical heroine. She struggles with her confidence, her morals, and life in general by not only holding herself to high standards, but her men as well. Enter two less-than-perfect men: one who may be the Prince Charming she’s been waiting for to deliver a fairy tale ending, the other a brash reality check who does NOT believe in happily-ever-after. What will Edith do? Will she sacrifice her standards? Or keep searching for that mythical white knight who may or may not exist in the first place? Funny, messy and sexy, Edith’s journey is relatable to anyone who’s ever left their heart on the battlefield of the dating world.

Edith by Swansgarden really surprised me. One day I was just browsing around the site and saw this unique art style and decided to take a peek. Well, not only do I love the art style, but this story is so different from what I’ve been reading because it deals with an older protagonist (like in her 20s or something), and there’s a lot of mental illness, tough decisions, forgiveness – or lack thereof, and more. The story is a little bit mature in theme, but it’s definitely something to check out if you’re interested.

★★★★☆

An ancient warrior created a pact to keep the world at peace. After ages, this pact still stands because of the spirit warriors who guard it. Aigon’s dream is to join these warriors, but unknown to everyone, the pact is about to get broken by a group of rebels hiding in plain sight

Spirit Warriors by Yaruno ad L.Bobler follows a group of kids who are looking to become spirit warriors (shocking, I know), and how they each go about finding their spirit and how they train and learn to master the power associated with it. Of course, it doesn’t seem to work out with every student, but it’s very early on in the series and I’m really interested to see what happens. It’s kind of cliche and predictable, but also just really good. If you like fantasy, check this one out!

★★★★☆

In school, Tooru is known as “The Prince”. He’s smart, popular, and can have anyone he wants. So why is it that he can’t think of anyone but Yamamoto, the plainest, dullest guy in the entire school?

Plain Boy & Prince by amanduur is the cutest and cheesiest and most glorious thing I’ve read. Seriously, I’ve been giggling and laughing so much and it’s just the cutest thing. It’s a boys’ love story following the Prince of the school who instantly falls for the most dull looking boy, and how the dull looking boy starts to also feel the feels, and just… go read it before I fangirl like crazy, thanks.

★★★★★

“Monsters can’t feel love” they say. Well, I think otherwise. “There’s a person I like… but other than the problem that she’s a girl… I find out she’s a monster!”

Monsters Don’t Blush! by Flowerfully is another super cute story that is a girls’ love story that follows a girl wanting to tell her crush how much she likes her, but she’s often blocked from getting near the girl to let her know how she feels. It’s very early on in this series, but I can’t wait for the next update because, just like the Plain Boy & Prince story, there’s much giggling and cuteness to be had.

Books

This is going to be separated into two parts: Book I’ve read and books I’m currently reading.

Books I’ve Read

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black was a book that hadn’t been on my radar until I saw literally everyone reading it. When I started to read it, I wasn’t all that into it. I felt the writing was super choppy and didn’t really encapsulate everything that was going on in every scene. I didn’t really feel for the characters until the last third of the book. Honestly, the end of the book is what saved this from a two star rating because THAT ENDING THO. Overall it was a good read for the latter part of the book and it definitely made me excited to read the next book.

★★★★☆

Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.

And that his best friend has a crush on me.

And that I just moved in with them.

Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?

He knows where to find me.

The Chase by Elle Kennedy was kind of a let down for me because I really loved her Off-Campus series that I read a few years ago. I saw the main protagonist, Summer, was a pretty whiny individual. Yes, she had some mental health issues and dyslexia, which was nice to see in a novel, but her overall character was just… too… whiny. That’s the best way I can put it. And I felt like Fitz was super two dimensional. I wanted to know and see more of his computer/video game side, but alas, we only got brief glimpses of it. I’m more interested in reading the second book in this Briar U duology, but we’ll see how it goes.

★★★☆☆

The Art of War meets “The Artist’s Way” in this no-nonsense, profoundly inspiring guide to overcoming creative blocks of every kind.

The War of Art by Steven Pressfield is a self-help kind of book that talks about ways to break through to your inner creative and really make the best use of your time with it, but, uh, I didn’t like this book. At all, or much at all.

It boasts a lot about showing you how to break past those blocks and be creative, but the most I got out of it was, “stop procrastinating and just do it.” I actually DNFed it because it was just not for me. This doesn’t mean you might not find value in it – you might! My husband liked it much more than me and said I’d like it, but alas.

Books I’m Currently Reading

A richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford’s Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness is one of my current reads and I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I have been. Not only did it hook me from the first chapter, but it’s feeding my inner vampire heart because, yes, there are vampires and they’re different from other kinds of vampires I’ve read about, and just yes, please. I’m about 35%-ish through the book right now and am definitely enjoying it, but there are some things that I’ve been questioning as it goes that I’ll talk about in my review when it comes.

I recommend it if you’re looking for an urban fantasy adult read with witches, vampires, mystery, and magic.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter.

It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Wars were fought for them, and won by them. One such war rages on the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where 10 armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable.

Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity.

Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar’s niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan’s motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war.

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson is the first book in the Stormlight Archive and OOH BOY, is it a long book. I’ve been listening to the audiobook for months now (it’s over 45 hours long), but it is SO good. The world building is phenomenal, the characters are awesome, the plot is intricate and complex, and it’s quickly (or not so quickly, given its size lol) become one of my favorite books – and I’m only 71% of the way through it! I am, however, in part four, which is the last part, so the end is coming for this first book and I am not ready for it.

If you’re looking for a high fantasy novel that you can really dive deep into and be stuck in for a while, then I definitely recommend this book. And I especially recommend the audiobook because the voice actors do a very great job with their roles.

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .

A convict with a thirst for revenge

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager

A runaway with a privileged past

A spy known as the Wraith

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is a fan favorite, as I’ve noticed, and I got 40% of the way through before I stopped. Not because I wasn’t enjoying it – I was, for sure! – but I just wasn’t in the mood to read it at the time. I do plan on picking it back up soon, though, so look forward to that review when it comes! What I have read so far, though, is action packed and very dark and it speaks to that darker part of my soul, so it’s very much appreciated.

If you’re looking for a heist book with a lot of unlikely people coming together, definitely pick this up.

In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe has neither the look nor the voice of divinity, and is scorned and rejected by her kin. Increasingly isolated, she turns to mortals for companionship, leading her to discover a power forbidden to the gods: witchcraft.

When love drives Circe to cast a dark spell, wrathful Zeus banishes her to the remote island of Aiaia. There she learns to harness her occult craft, drawing strength from nature. But she will not always be alone; many are destined to pass through Circe’s place of exile, entwining their fates with hers. The messenger god, Hermes. The craftsman, Daedalus. A ship bearing a golden fleece. And wily Odysseus, on his epic voyage home.

There is danger for a solitary woman in this world, and Circe’s independence draws the wrath of men and gods alike. To protect what she holds dear, Circe must decide whether she belongs with the deities she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.

Circe by Madeline Miller is a story that takes place in the world of the gods, and though I’m still fairly early on (only 5% of the way through) it’s really good so far. I was bored at work one day and decided to look this title up and read a sample because I’d been hearing good things about it, and boy, am I hooked. The writing style is different, but full of a life of its own. It’s got cruelty (as the gods are very cruel), loss, humanity, and that’s just within the first early section of the book.

If you’re looking for a myth retelling – or a unique myth story – check this one out!

Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight—she’s a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king’s thug.

She never expects to fall in love with beautiful Prince Po.

She never expects to learn the truth behind her Grace—or the terrible secret that lies hidden far away . . . a secret that could destroy all seven kingdoms with words alone.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore is a fantasy story that I’ve been interested in reading for a long time, but had never picked it up until I watched Hannah from A Clockwork Reader on YouTube recommend the book to someone who might be looking for a romance in fantasy. And, well, if you know me, you know I love both of those things, so of course I picked this up (luckily my husband owns the books so it was easy enough to get).

I’ve only read the first chapter, but I already have SO many questions! It’s already off to a fast start with many characters and abilities that I can’t wait to learn more about.

If you’re looking for a YA fantasy with romance, check out this companion series! I hear not every book focuses on the romance, so you might find a book that fits your tastes more.

AND THAT’S IT! Wow, I’ve actually been reading a lot more than I thought I was lol I’m also glad that I’ve enjoyed most of the books I’ve read so far this year. I actually find it interesting that when I’m reading lately I’ve got a more critical eye and I’m finding more faults in things than I was when I first started blogging. It’s crazy, but I’m liking that I’m being more honest with myself about my thoughts on books.

Let’s Chat!

What have you been reading lately? What was your favorite and least favorite book from the first quarter of the year? What would you recommend to me? Let me know!

Summer 2017 Reading Wrap Up

Oh why, hello there. How are you all? I wanted to first and foremost apologize for not posting much at all this year. It’s been a tough year emotionally and mentally for me and I just haven’t had the motivation to blog at all, but I want to turn that around because I miss blogging and all of you, so here I am with a reading wrap up! I’m going to talk about a bunch of comics I’ve read the past several months and my thoughts on what I’ve read so far since the majority of them are still ongoing.

I’m going to list what I’ve read under their respective websites in which you can find them. Yes, some of these you have to pay for (Lezhin), but others are completely free (Tapastic & LINE Webtoon).

Lezhin Comics

royalservant

Royal Servant by MasterGin and drawn by Chungnyun. “I love you, Master.” Born as a servant but falls in love with the man who hates servants. A romantic fantasy between master and servant.

This Boy Love (BL) comic is kind of dark and twisted, but I still really enjoy it. I’ve read up to the current chapter and I’m dying to know what happens next and if Kyon will stay with Laocan or not because he had memories hidden away from him that were unlocked and it’s just a lot of unanswered questions. Ahhh, I hope this is a longer series because it’s really interesting and there’s lots of boy love to go around (not just with the two primary characters).

This comic does have mature themes, so keep that in mind if you check this out.

attheendoftheroad

At the End of the Road by Haribo. After a car accident, Taemin finds himself in the body of Siwon, a victim of bullying at school. No longer a pushover, he starts standing up for himself but then meets Woojin, an old friend from the past. Somehow, Woojin immediately picks up Tamin’s ‘scent’ from Siwon. What happened between these two in the past and how will it affect their future?

I know I’ve talked briefly about this comic before in Why I Love Boys Love, but I wanted to include it here, too, because the stakes just keep seeming to get higher and there’s a lot of tension between Siwon and Woojin, and there’s so many twisted people and events but I’m so hooked. There’s a lot going on that you as the reader don’t know about and I find that to be one of the best parts of this comic. Plus the whole body switching thing? I really want to know what’s going to happen later on or if Taemin is going to be stuck in Siwon’s body forever. Ahhh, so many questions!

This comic does have more mature themes if you check it out.

outofcontrol

Out of Control by Bboong. Yuri, one of the school’s most handsome guys, and Jaerim, one of the school’s ugliest, collide! Or don’t they… Can’t understand what’s going on between these two! It’s out of control!

SO much hilarity ensues in this comic and I love it because of that. Toward the end, though, it gets more dark and serious, but it’s still a driving force in the story and I found that I needed to know what happens next with these two. It’s pretty much a story about how the super hot popular guy falls for the ugly guy (though it mostly focuses on Jaerim) and how they end up trying to hide it from the school and stuff and there’s a lot of chaos and bullying and trying to find the strength and confidence to get through it all. It’s completed so if you want to check it out, go ahead! I enjoyed it and felt that the story wrapped up nicely and I’m glad with how the characters turned around at the end.

kingsmaker

King’s Maker by Haga and art by Kang Jiyoung. Wolfgang Goldenleonard, the 4th Prince of the kingdom, returns to the palace after years of living in hiding. He rejects everything about his new royal life, but is intrigued by the mysterious and dutiful Shin Soohyuk, a catamite of the King. As Wolfgang slowly opens up and learns the ways of the palace, Soohyuk begins to see something special about the wild, unkempt, and stubborn young prince. He might just be the one Soohyuk has been waiting for… the one who could light the flame of rebellion.

I don’t think you understand how much I love this comic. Not only is the art GORGEOUS, but the story itself is compelling. The main character, Wolfgang, is by far the coolest character ever (he seems to be selfless and caring and relaxed around others while everyone around him is like, “You shouldn’t be like that,” and he’s just all, PSSSHHHHH). It hasn’t even gotten to the romance aspect of it yet (though I know it’s going to soon because I’m the Queen of spoiling myself lol), but when it does you will probably hear my fangirlish squeaks of glee from wherever you are.

Not only is this story just pretty to look at, but there’s a lot of humor and just general silliness mixed in with the hard and difficult stuff as well. I find that it’s a good contrast to break some of the tension because though this has been a more light-hearted story than some, there are still some moments where there’s difficult stuff. I highly recommend this ongoing comic, so definitely check it out!

windowtowindow

Window to Window by Lee Aru. Childhood friends Ginu and Yubin live in separate apartments in separate buildings right next to each other – so close, in fact, they can talk to each other and see into each other’s apartments through their windows. But Yubin’s long-held secret is revealed one day when Ginu sees him doing something naughty through the window…

This BL story contains a LOT of mature sexual content, so keep that in mind when going into this.

Apart from the sexy stuff, I’m really enjoying this comic (I mean, I’m enjoying the sexy stuff… anyway, continue). I love reading about childhood friends and how they both have feelings for each other but neither wants to admit it, and yet they’re in this very strange circumstance with each other and I’m just like, “ONE OF YOU CONFESS ALREADY.” It’s torture, I tell you. But either way, this is more of a sexy fluff story than a super serious one, so I like to read it to take the edge off of all of the other serious comics I’ve been reading, haha! It’s good though, so check it out!

somethingaboutus

Something About Us by Lee Yunji. They consider themselves the best of friends. Others seem to think otherwise.
There’s something about their relationship that’s hard to describe. What will become of these two “friends”?

This is the one of two non-BL comic on this list, bwahaha, but OMG IT’S SO CUTE. I loved this story and the characters and the ART. The art style is simple yet so beautiful, and I think that’s definitely one of the draws of this story. Other than that, it’s a story about two friends who became best friends in high school, and now that they’re in college Gayoung (the girl) falls for Woojin in an unexpected way. There’s of course drama and a bunch of things that go on, but as time progresses and they both start to have feelings for each other things get even more complicated and even cuter. This comic is completed and is one of my favorites. Check it out!

bloodbank

Blood Bank by Silb. Blood Bank is where vampires come to buy human blood! In a land where vampires, the supreme beings, rule human beings, there are those that have abnormalities. These vampires, while still superior, prefer to be ruled and commanded by humans. See how Shell, the son of a Blood Bank lord, falls for a mere human banker, One.

Another completed comic, this BL is about a vampire, Shell, who is very different from the other vampires around, even though he acts one way in public compared to privately, and of One, a human with a secret that even he wasn’t so sure about. But this comic has a lot of twists and turns and, of course, sexual things that make you want to go George Takei “oh myyyy” on it. But the story itself has a lot of twists to it that you might not expect that I felt made the story and characters that much more interesting. It was a more serious comic in content, but there were moments where it was funny and cute, and if you’re looking for a vampire BL story, then check this one out.

makemebark

Make Me Bark by Sagold. Sungjoon’s not doing great, but life is looking up. His job at the convenience store pays enough for him to afford his own place. A tiny, smelly, and laughably cheap place, but he loves it. He loves it right up until he walks home and finds it on fire.
Unfortunately, things get worse as he realizes he doesn’t know anyone in the city who can help. Wait, no… that’s not right. Actually, he does know Lee Hyo-in. A rich kid from his university who is, coincidentally, looking for a roommate. Well, not a roommate. More of a… dog.

This BL is more mature in nature, so keep that in mind. It’s also ongoing and still in the early chapters, but I find it to be really cute so far. I have so many questions as to the motives and back story for Lee Hyo-in, particularly, because there’s a lot about him that makes me want to know when he fell for Sungjoon and just more about him. Of course I want to know more about Sungjoon, too, but still. Also, I always find the dynamic interesting when you have a kind of clueless about sex and sexual things character (Sungjoon) and one that seems more experienced in it (Hyo-in). Frankly, I don’t know what to expect with this story and I kind of like it?

30dayswithyou

30 Days With You by Kim Wonee and art by Youngmo. Iro’s plan was simple. Pretend to be a service man, make the delivery, and exchange a few words with Rene, his dream guy. But when a drunk Rene mistakes him for the android he ordered, Iro decides to take advantage of the situation. As long as he keeps playing along, he gets to live with the man of his dreams! But what will happen when Rene finds out the truth?

This ongoing BL series is still in its earlier chapters, so not too much has happened plot wise, but what has happened so far makes me want to know more! Especially about the main characters Iro and Rene. Like, why did Iro make a S-Roid (sex android) business and what is his motivation behind it? What is Rene’s back story? I need to know more and I want to know now. I also like how this story is told in a lot of blue hues. It’s cool to see how the artist uses just blue to convey depth of field and the characters and such. Anyway, I’m enjoying this comic so far because there’s a lot of humor in it and not as much seriousness.

hadomae

Hadomae by Choenamsae. While posing as a nude model for a croquis class, Jaehee spots a man staring a little too intently at her body. More specifically, at her feet. She later finds out the man is a shoemaker and foot fetishist. Though Jaehee is initially taken aback by his fetish, the more she gets to know the man, the more she wishes he would caress the rest of her body…and not just her feet.

This non-BL story (the second on this list for Lezhin), has a lot of mature content. So I really like this story so far and I want to know what happens next because the current chapter that just came out? SOMEONE HELP JAEHEE. Jaehee, as a character, I find to be super naive of many things. Like… how is someone THAT innocent and almost stupid when it comes to anything sexual? I don’t know, I just kind of question it a bit, but at the same time I think that she’s a funny character and I hope things don’t go bad for her. As for the story itself I didn’t know what to expect when I read the description for it but it’s super funny and just kind of hot. I want to know more about all of the main and significant characters so far! Ahhh, I need more!

peachlove

Peach Love by Fujoking. Love is the new kid on the block when he runs into the Peach Club, the local gang. Simple and gentle, with an interest in sex toys, Love isn’t looking for trouble. Too bad the gang’s got plans for him. And so does their leader, Peach.

This comic just started getting translated into English recent so there’s not a lot of chapters, but it’s mostly action based so far and I have SO many questions, especially considering Love uses sex toys as reference models for the dolls he makes? Like… why? How? How does that even work? I don’t even know. I also want to know more about his past because it hasn’t been revealed yet as to why he has so many enemies and stuff. And then there’s Peach who’s a tough guy who falls in love at first sight with Love and they’re kind of dating? I don’t even know if that’s really a thing even though it was stated in the comic because they just seem like friends? Ahhh, I’m so confused and I just need more because I’m hooked.

aguylikeyou

A Guy Like You by Waje. Go Siwon’s dreams are constantly visited by the clever, beautiful Kang Jinha. In the dream, Jinha keeps on mentioning this “incident” that happened between them but Siwon can’t remember anything! And how can it feel so real? Luckily for Siwon, hints about the “incident” start to appear and Siwon is able to regain his memory bit by bit. How will their relationship change at the end of it all?

This BL has mature themes. I’ve really been enjoying this ongoing comic because it has a light fantasy feel to it which I find very interesting, though it hasn’t been a super prominent component the last few chapters as it’s been focusing more on the boys and their pasts and such. I’m still trying to figure out a lot of things that I don’t want to spoil that have been happening but overall I’ve been enjoying this series.

Tapastic (Tapas)

aimatosbrightmemorieseyesonme

  • Aimatos by Rowein. Boy meet boy and together search their origins. This story is about two friends who fall for each other and one boy has exploding blood? It’s very interesting and funny so far.
  • Bright Memories by Ezaho-Illness. I decided to start my own comic named ”Bright memories”… it’s about my relationship with my boyfriend Ryo. I think our story is very unique and I wanted to share some of our moments. This story has an interesting art style, and so far not too much has happened, but I’m curious to see just how these two started to date.
  • Eyes on Me by loonytwin. This comic is about a boy, Evan, who forgets his keys at his roommates house, on his way to find them he didn’t expect to find such a cute guy at the door… even less for said guy to be half naked and interested in him for no reason! I’ve been finding this comic to be funny so far and about one guy’s desire for another, even though the one he’s desiring after seems to just want to tease him about it. Who knows, maybe it’ll be a funny romance.

flourishingflowersgoodnightdarlingjavabonds

  • Flourishing Flower by RoseNose. After school Milo and his sister Hanna walk past a flower shop. They meet Ben, who is the owner of the shop. Hanna is immediately faszinated by the flowers. Ben gives them a bouquet of flowers as a gift, due to the fact that the siblings do not have much money. They start to visit Ben on a regular basis and a friendship starts to grow. Slowly Milo realizes that it might be more than just the normal friendship feeling which he has towards Ben. The Teenager does not really know how to handle the situation properly… So far this story is cute and simple, and I like that. It seems like it’s going to be a fluff kind of story, so I’m excited to see where it goes from here.
  • Goodnight Darling by Michi. Raina returns to Polleto, her childhood home, after a bitter fight with her mother. Staying with her two older brothers, enrolled in a new school, and bullied constantly–along with striking news of a murderer–there’s practically no one to help her cope with her newfound life in an old town. Well…there’s Baru, a byproduct of her stress and anxiety. As much as she believes he’s imaginary…being in Polleto is making her question many things about herself, and him. The main character has my name! It’s just spelled differently, but it always excites me when I hear characters with my name since it’s not common, haha! This is a much darker comic than many of the others because the creator has been using it as a way to cope with dreams and mental things she’s been dealing with and I think that’s very awesome of her. The story itself is very interesting so far and I have a lot of questions, but I’m sure we’ll get more as time goes on.
  • Java Bonds by Yaa. Prepare for Slow Burn! (if at all ԾᴗԾ) Henry’s life consists of self-chosen lonely cigarette or coffee breaks and friends he shouldn’t fall for. I’m liking this story so far! Yaa is probably my favorite creator I’ve read so far on Tapas, so I’m definitely enjoying the story. I can’t tell if it’s going to be a BL or if there’s just hints of it, but I love the way she portrays the main character’s anxiety as this little devil type of thing that sits on his shoulder and tells him he’s crap and stuff. And how like… stuff melts from his hair, like his brain and the anxiety are melting over him… I don’t know, there’s a lot of cool imagery!

hadesholidaylovelessonhowtotellifyourcrushlikesyou

  • Hades’ Holiday by elvishness. Hades and Persephone just want to be together; If only the gods agreed with them. Hades’ Holiday is a modern, fun adaptation of the characters from Greek Mythology! This has been a cute comic so far with lovely art and fun characters and I wish it was updated more often, but alas, we cannot rush art. I love the retelling of these Greek gods and how they all interact with one another. It’s good!
  • Love Lesson by enka923. “I finally fall in love!-” A story revolves around a socially awkward school boy, Akamine Natsuki, who is after so long finally able to taste the sweet nectar of falling in love. Unfortunately (or not) for him, though, he fell in love to the non other than the most popular kid in school, a boy named Kobayashi Haruki. This is a story about them, their friends, and their relationships. This is a cute comic so far about a boy who falls for this other boy, but doesn’t tell him because he doesn’t want to ruin his budding friendship and stuff. I hope they kiss soon, let’s be honest.
  • How to Tell if Your Crush Likes You by Ame-Senpai. School Life? Check!
    Drama? Check!
    Love? Check?
Join these two boys as they traverse the complicated concept that is “CRUSHES”. This story isn’t too far into it, but so far it looks like just a normal friendship that will turn into romance eventually. I’m looking forward to it!

theonewholovedyoufrombehindtheurgytiedinred

  • The One Who Loved You From Behind by Ghostfeet. Wren Long is the very definition of ‘rebellious teen’ with his hazardous habits of picking fights and causing havoc wherever he goes. However, he only seems to listen to his adamant ‘online’-girlfriend, Eda, that he met months ago but have never once seen her face?! In truth; his girlfriend is actually Eda’mame’. A softhearted boy in wheelchairs that goes to the same school as Wren, who don’t have the heart to tell him the truth. This is such a good comic! And the creator is hilarious in her comments on her panels, omg. It’s about a boy in a wheelchair, Eda, who is in love with this boy named Wren, and they’re “dating” but Eda thinks Wren thinks that Eda’s a girl and it’s just like… ahhhh this is so good and I want moreeeee. I can’t even describe it, just go read it.
  • Theurgy by midgart. Theurgy is a BL comic about a lazy demon and the idiot who accidentally summons him. Because why wouldn’t you summon a demon? There aren’t a lot of panels to this comic yet, but so far I find it funny and the characters to just be weird but cool.
  • Tied in Red by Torakodragon. Ned’s a normal guy. All he wants is a normal life, with a normal job, and a normal wife, in the normal universe where those with soul mates are born with a red string on their pinkie. I love the concept of this comic! I love the concept of the red tie of fate kind of thing and how it determines who you’re destined to be with in life. I think that the execution of this idea has been done really well so far in this comic and I just want more and I love seeing the growing love between these two because one was totally against it and the other seemed indifferent.

valentine

  • Valentine by Seni-Arseni. Genre: yaoi, romance, drama, comedy, everyday. This comic is pretty much about a guy, Alex, who goes to this Valentine’s Day party type of thing where everyone gets a number and then someone else gets your number, too, and the two meet and hopefully hit it off. Well, Alex gets the same number as Max, a guy a year or two behind him in college and Alex just sees him as a friend. This comic has been really cute and good so far and I just want to see where it goes from here.

LINE Webtoon

aboutusagemattersalwayshuman

  • About Us by Jessie Bae. Pink&Blue, Black&White, Orange&Green, Purple&Yellow, Red&Brown and Silver & Gold. Stories of six couples and how they love each others ❤ Super cute comic with just fluff and a bunch of characters and I love iiiiiiit.
  • Age Matters by enjelicious. Story of a 25 yr. old billionaire bachelor who met a bizarre woman in her 30s and how they fall in love. Does age really matter? I’m really enjoying this story so far because it’s got comedy, abs, and potential romance.
  • Always Human by walkingnorth. This is a story about nanobots, genetic engineering, and two girls falling in love. No matter how technology changes us, we’ll always be human. The art style is SO pretty in this comic, plus the music that goes along with each chapter is just amazing. The story itself is so cute so far and though it’s completed I haven’t even gotten half way through yet, but I really love it!

bitemecatharsisiloveyoo

  • Bite Me by AffectedMind. Tiana moved to Mainland to study and have peaceful life. Unfortunately Tyler, her schoolmate won’t let this happen, as it turned he’s a vampire and bites her. Soon the strange things start to happen. Tiana tries to push him away afraid he will abuse her. However affection towards him seem to be stronger. Will addiction turn into something more? Or after discovering the truth she will turn her back to him? I started reading this comic because another creator on this list (lifelight) had it recommended and well… I’m liking it? The story itself is darker than I thought it would be and I’m still trying to understand the romance aspect of it, but we’ll see where it goes from here.
  • Catharsis by Ahniki. Fear is a powerful emotion that can end up overtaking one’s life. Leon thought he knew that. But when he’s thrown into the demonic realm that Catharsis governs over, he’ll learn that there is more to “true” fear than he could ever have imagined… But will he learn how to face it? I LOVE this webcomic so much! The concept behind it is wicked cool and it features a main character who can see colors when sounds and voices are around him, and each person has a unique color. It’s such a cool concept because he can use it to his advantage in the world he’s in. I need to read more, what am I doing?
  • I Love Yoo by Quimchee. Dogged by pain and misfortune from the very beginning, Shin-Ae decides she wants nothing to do with people nor anything to do with romance. Although content with her unsocial, boring, loveless existence, her lifestyle is challenged after she ruins an unsuspecting strangers’ clothes. This comic is wicked funny and I love the art style, and the plot itself is very good, too! I want to see more because things have slowly been getting more serious and I want to know what’s going to happen next. But there’s plenty of comedy in here, don’t worry.

letsplayluminemissabbottandthedoctor

  • Let’s Play by mongie. Sam wants to be a game developer, but before her career can get started, a popular gaming personality posts a video of himself playing her first game and gives it a bad review. To make matters worse, she soon finds out he’s her new neighbor! A story about gaming, memes, and social anxiety. Come for the plot, stay for the doggo. If any of you are fans of people like Markiplier or jacksepticeye on YouTube, you’ll SO relate to this comic. It’s funny and so good because it also deals with sexism and wanting to reach for your dreams.
  • Lumine by Emma Krogell. A runaway werewolf, Lumine, meets a witch boy named Kody and is being hired to work as his bodyguard. Lumine, being determined to befriend Kody, tries everything to get Kody to trust him, while Kody tries to keep Lumine away from him. Their life gets even more complicated after an unfortunate event that leaves them to try to survive on their own. This story is so cute so far and I’m sure it’ll turn into a romance later on (I’m hoping), but so far it’s just about two boys looking to find their place in life and my heart can’t take it.
  • Miss Abbott and the Doctor by Maripaz Villar. Doctor Andreas Marino loves his quiet life, filled with work and simple amusements, and when the strange Miss Abbott arrives in his town he decides he doesn’t like her at all. Unfortunatelly she’s funny and quirky, has an uncommon past and seems to enjoy getting him in trouble. Welcome to a sketchy Victorian rom-com! I love this comic! It’s so cute and simple but that’s what makes it so great. I love the romantic tension between Miss Abbott and Dr Andreas, and how they interact, and them as characters, and the art style. Just everything about this comic I love.

mydearcoldbloodedkingmygiantnerdboyfriendsirenslament

  • My Dear Cold-Blooded King by lifelight. Born a humble peasant, Kihara Mei has lived simply day by day as a merchant in the capitol, and never assumed things would change. But, one fateful day would change the course of her life, when faced with a deadly challenge against dangerous royal assassins. Now, with the eyes of the dreaded Blood King upon her, her life of simplicity would now become a tangled web of secrecy, deceit, and desire. Loooooveeee this comicccc. Seriously it’s really good and the art style is lovely and the music on some of the chapters is so pretty, too. I love time period stories because this takes place a long time ago and there’s just so much at stake and I have SO many questions. Ugh. I need more.
  • My Giant Nerd Boyfriend by fishball. A height difference of 30cm and above might seem adorable to some, but it usually causes a lot of minor inconveniences. Follow Fishball as she navigates the Malaysian life with her 199cm-tall, geeky boyfriend. This is a real-life type of comic where it’s about the creator and her super tall boyfriend and every time I read it I’m like, “omg it’s me and my husband.” Haha, it’s really cute and funny and you should definitely check it out.
  • Siren’s Lament by instantmiso. Content with her ordinary life, Lyra is somewhat of a wallflower. However, her comfortable lifestyle suddenly goes astray when she accidentally plunges into the world of sirens. Entangled in a curse, Lyra will learn that her world may be a lot bigger than she had ever imagined. If you want hot guys with abs, a really pretty young woman, and sirens, then this is the comic for you. There’s romance, suspense, comedy. There’s so much wrapped up into this comic and I just want everything to work out for everyone because they’re all precious. Excuse me while I go sob into the void.

If you’ve read this far, CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve finally reached the end! And I just want you to know that I didn’t even list every single thing I’ve been reading or read over the last several months (otherwise this post would be waaaaaaaaay too long… much longer than what it is now). Some things I’ve given up on or just don’t have much to say, but I’ve seriously had a great summer of reading all sorts of comics and seeing all sorts of art styles.

Part of me wants to pick up a regular book and read it and do reviews again, the other part of me forgot how to do that, haha! But I’m going to do my best to devote more time into my blog once more because like I said earlier, I miss you all!

Let’s Chat! ^w^

How was your summer of reading? Did you read anything good? Bad? What was your favorite read this summer? (If that’s too tough, tell me your top three!) Any recommendations? Let me know!

Spring Reading Wrap Up

Time for a reading wrap up! Haven’t done one in a while, but I figured I’d talk about all of the things I’ve been reading the last couple of months. I’ve been reading pretty much exclusively manga, and I’ve been loving it because I haven’t read this much manga in a long time. But I’m enjoying pretty much everything I’ve been reading, so here’s what I’ve read so far this year! (I’m not going to talk about some of the books I’ve already done separate reviews for, but rather other series.)

tokyoghoul1noragami1 tencount

Tokyo Ghoul by Sui Ishida, volumes 1-12. Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she’s only interested in his body—eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.

There’s a total of 14 volumes in this series, and though the whole series is completed and I could read it all, I’m actually collecting these specific editions of the series. BUT what I’ve read of the series so far? Oh. My. God. It’s so dark and twisted and I love it.

It’s rated for older teens 16+ and with good reason because there’s a lot of blood and violence that happens in this story. Ken Kaneki goes through a lot when he suddenly becomes a ghoul after being attacked by one, and it’s pretty much his journey going through a lot of hardships, almost dying several times, and becoming stronger to save others.

Honestly, it’s one of my favorite series I’ve read and I’m glad I picked it up. It really deserves the hype it has. There’s humans who work for an organization trying to abolish ghouls, and then there are sects of ghouls who try to rise up against them. I recommend this series if you’re looking for something darker and more intense. I’m also currently watching the anime and, hoo boy, it’s intense.

Noragami by Adachitoka, volumes 1-17. Yato is a stray god. He doesn’t even have a shrine, not to mention worshipers! Hoping he’ll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish temple of his dreams, Yato accepts all kinds of jobs. Of course, he can’t afford to be picky; from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies, no job is too small for Yato, the god-for-hire! An eccentric story with a charming cast of characters!

This is probably one of my favorite series ever because it’s so fun but also serious at times, and omg I ship Hiyori and Yato so much like JUST KISS ALREADY, and there are other characters that I’ve grown attached to and I want to know what exactly happens with them because I’ve read up to volume 17 and so much has happened!

Yato is a god who was made through wishes and he is often forgotten if he is ever seen or helps others. And then when Hiyori sees him one day and saves him from being hit by a truck (even though the driver couldn’t see him), she then ends up almost dying and being able to slip out of her body and join Yato – and eventually Yato’s shinki [weapon], Yukine – on their jobs and adventures. It’s such a great story that doesn’t fail to make me laugh and be suspicious of so many characters and their true intentions.

Seriously check this series out. It’s so good and very addicting. Plus the art style is really nice to look at.

Ten Count by Rihito Takarai, volumes 1-6. When the President got into an accident, Shirotani Tadaomi met Kurose. On their very first meeting, Kurose could tell right away that Shirotani is Mysophobic and said that it’s pretty bad while suggesting it would be better to consult a doctor about it. Shirotani was left perturbed by the encounter. Who is Kurose? And how was he able to tell Shirotani’s condition?

This is a yaoi series which means lots of boy/boy love and sex, and I’m really enjoying this series. At least, up until the last few chapters because now I feel like Kurose is really just using Shirotani and it’s not healthy and just… yeah… But anyway, up until that point, it was hot and steamy and it was nice to see Kurose wanting to help Shirotani with his mysophobia, and Shirotani is making progress, but I hope events don’t escalate and he becomes worse than before.

koisuruharinezumi1 tsubakichoulonelyplanet nanirosekai

Koisuru Harinezumi by Nao Hinachi, volumes 1-3. To change from ‘like’ to ‘love’, what strategies must Ozawa use on Kazuki? Kazuki Heiji is the troublemaker. He gets into fights and is very cold to everyone. Ozawa Kii witnesses a fight between a classmate and Kazuki but he unexpectedly says he wants to become friends? And what’s this about ‘like’ and ‘love’.

Ahhhh the cutenessssssssss. This is a shoujo manga, meaning it’s more tailored toward girls with romance and all of that, and I love shoujo manga, so this was right up my alley. The art style is very lovely and the story is a cute one of a scary guy, Kazuki, who is approached one day by a sweet girl, Ozawa, to turn in an assignment, and they soon find themselves in a friendship. But Ozawa slowly starts to fall for him and things just kind of get more complicated from there in ways but sweeter in others.

If you need a light hearted read with cute feels, definitely check out this series. It’s super cute and yeah, the story isn’t original, but who cares? Still so many feels.

Tsubaki Chou Lonely Planet, chapters 1-33. Ohno Fumi is a poor 2nd year high school student. Because of her father’s debts, she’s kicked out of her own home and has to rely on her own connections to survive. Thus begins her life as a live-in housekeeper for a reclusive writer…

Ahhhh I can’t even with this seriessssss. It’s too cute and I simply love it. When Fumi becomes a housekeeper to a reclusive writer, Akatsuki, she slowly develops feelings for him. And there’s a lot of silly moments and cute moments and then THE CONFESSION. AHHHH dying of the cuuuuuute. Okay, sorry, it’s very fresh in my mind as I just finished reading all of the updated chapters online that I could find. But yeah, another light hearted read for you to check out if you’re interested!

Nanairo Sekai, volume 1 – four short stories. 1) The Glasses Thief
A boy with bad eyesight and the girl who is in love with him.

2) Convenience Store Honey
A boy worries about his quiet boyfriend.

3) Adult-Uniform
A girl wonders why her childhood friend does not speak to her anymore.

4) Refrigerator Chocolate
Satoru is going to have heart surgery with a 50/50 chance of surviving. One day he comes across a girl in a refrigerator…

This manga consisted of four short stories, each with some form of love in it, and it was just so bitter sweet reading them. They all deal with some small hardship that they have to overcome in some way, and I think that that brings the characters closer together. If you’re looking for a feel-good, but still kinda bitter sweet, read then check out this manga.

livingnomatsunagasan hirunakanoryuusei smokinparadise

Living no Matsunaga-san, chapters 1-2. Miko leaves the house of her parents to live with her uncle who runs a boarding house, but her first meeting with Matsunaga-san isn’t good and then he discovers that she is one of her uncle’s tenants. Even as a secondary student she surrounds herself with university students who have a very different life from her own. Can she fit into her new home?

Whyyyyy are there only two chapters translatedddddd!? I need more nowwwwwwww. Seriously, there’s something about this manga and I just NEED MORE. The art style is a good one, the story seems like it’s going to be fun, the main leads are interesting… Ugh. Give me more! I want to see their relationship grow, please, thanks… Even though there’s only a few chapters out right now, definitely check out this story when you can. Super cute and funny.

Hirunaka no Ryuusei, chapter 115-year-old country girl, Suzume Yosano, has to move to Tokyo to live with her uncle due to her father’s transfer. She bumps into a mysterious man who ends up taking her to her uncle’s place after she gets lost. Turns out, Suzume will be seeing him a lot more often once she starts school because… he’s her homeroom teacher!?

Okay, love stories between teacher and student seem to be popular right now, where the student is 16/17 and the teacher is in their early 20’s and I don’t know what it is about it, BUT I’M DIGGING IT. AHH. And I’ve only read the first chapter of this manga but I can tell I’m already going to be intrigued because it just has a lot of elements that I’m interested in and I know I’ll enjoy. More thoughts will come once I’ve read more.

Smokin’ Paradise by Jinsei Kataoka & Kazuma Kondou, volume 1. Youkou lives in a future where organ transplants are common and available to all, but life’s not as idyllic as it seems–it turns out a nefarious organization is using that technology for their own evil ends! Only the elite squad Jackalope has any chance of stopping them before it’s too late.

Okay, this one is much more intense than the previous ones I’ve talked about because it’s a shonen series, which means it’s geared toward boys, and therefore there’s more explosions and death and gutting and machines…. Anyway, this story has my interest piqued because so many things happen and I have so many questions about the main character and his history and why he is the way he is and what’s going to happen next. As far as I know only the first volume is out, but it’s really good. Violent, but good.

mayokenodarling

Mayoke no Darling by Puku Okuyama – chapters 1-4. At the university’s badminton club’s freshmen welcome party, everyone is scared stiff when the scary-looking Tougo introduces himself. The fearless (or maybe just clueless) freshmen Haruka ends up sharing a taxi home with Tougo… and while everyone else trembles in fear before him, Haruka finds him handsome.

SUCH A CUTE YAOI, OMG. I almost forgot to add this to my list but even though there’s only a few chapters out right now, this was still very cute. It’s simple and sweet boy love and cute and makes me happy. Especially since it’s like the “scary looking” dude with the SUPER cute guy who’s all bubbly and kind of airheaded. Commence the warm fuzzies, I clearly can’t coherently write anything about this without squeeing.

So that’s most of what I’ve read so far in the last few months. There is another series or two I started and got a decent way through but I can’t remember their names. #fail

Let’s Chat! ^w^

Anyway, let me know if you’ve read any of these manga and what your thoughts were! Have any recommendations? I’d love to hear them!

I feel like it’s really been needed but I really miss you all and books and everything so I think I’m ready to get back into it. I hope. Please be patient with me during this time!

2016 Reading Challenge

For my Goodreads reading challenge I had set my goal to 30 books, and well, I surpassed the number pretty easily:

screen-shot-2016-12-26-at-8-44-10-pm

I’m so proud of the progress I made this year because I really didn’t think I would read as many as I did considering my reading rate dropped significantly around June/July. Still, I’m very happy with it and am excited for next year. My 2017 reading challenge will also be set to 30 books because I feel that’s a very attainable goal for me and it’s enough to push me to read as much as I can.

I’m once again going to set my fantasy reading goal to 30 books, which is a very attainable goal for someone who loves fantasy as much as I do. Sign ups are open, so join in the fun of reading fantasy over the course of the year!

Instagram

So over on my Instagram I did the things! I had a lot of fun participating in this month’s challenges, but I wasn’t as faithful to it as I was in November. I can’t wait to do more in January and maybe do more photos that stray away from the challenges? Not sure yet.

 Around the Internet

This is a feature I’ve seen in several other blogger’s wrap ups and I think it’s a fun way to show what else I’ve been reading/seeing around the internets!

  • Cait @ Paper Fury talked about the eight types of book reviewers, and I think I’m a mix of numbers 1 and 2.
  • Hazel @ Stay Bookish talked about 2016 being the year of problematic, and frankly, I agree with her.
  • The Red Queen trilogy by Victoria Aveyard and the Selection series by Keira Cass each have coloring books now? What? When did that happen? I just got the email about it, so if you’re totally into these series, check out the books! Red Queen // Selection

Life Updates

  • All the Christmas parties! All the goodies! Other than work parties and parties with friends, I participated in The Broke and the Bookish’s Secret Santa this year and I had so much fun with it! I now have a pen pal and I also loved my gifts. c: It was so fun and I’m definitely going to join in next year.
    • The gift included I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson and Shadowshaper by Daniel Jose Older, as well as a Bookworm candle from FrostBeard Studios, an elephant holding a book magnet, Mermaid Kiss chapstick from From the Page, Pop! Funko of Ariel from The Little Mermaid (my favorite Disney princess!), and a cute little stocking with an R on it and some candy.
  • For Christmas my hubby and I got a PS4 (first version model from a friend so it was cheap lol), which was a gift to both of us. So for myself I got a bunch of present from me to me, and they were: Lihit Lab pencil case, Micron pens, white Gelly Roll pens, Pentel brush marker, Sailor Moon bookmarks from LumosCoffeeRead, The Night Lord candle from Muggle Library Candles, and the illustrated editions of the first two Harry Potter books. I also got Final Fantasy XV and The Last Guardian for the PS4 (which I loved and am loving both).
  • THEN for Christmas I got four PS4 games: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Sword Art Online: Last Song, Tales of Zestiria, and Final Fantasy Class 0. I also got a musical floor mat that does the Jingle Bells song when you step on it (muahahahah), some candles with LED lights, ping pong paddle, candy (so much candy….), and a Bluetooth speaker! Honestly, it was a great Christmas and I’m thankful to my hubby and parents for getting me fun things. c:
