Top Ten Tuesday: Habits of a Bookworm

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people over at The Broke & the Bookish. Today’s topic is a freebie topic where we get to pick what we want to talk about, so today I wanted to talk about top ten habits of a bookworm! I thought this would be fun because 99.999999999% of us do these things, I swear. I was also inspired to do this topic based on Cait @ Paper Fury‘s post on what book bloggers actually do.

So, here are some habits I’ve noticed with bookworms:

1 . We habitually stalk every website ever when it comes to new book releases. I’m talking Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Waterstones, Booksamillion, wherever you shop for books or look for new releases that’ll be coming, we constantly stalk these websites. We need to know when new books are coming out AND WE NEED TO KNOW NOW.

2. We keep our shelves a certain way, and if someone touches them, they better have insurance. Seriously, you know how we are about our bookshelves and we want them to be in pristine condition, aka the way we left them 493409 years ago. So when someone comes and touches said preciouses and then moves them, oh man. You either silently put back the book in the place you know it’s supposed to be in after they’ve stepped – slowly – away from the shelves, or you tell nicely to put it back where it belongs. Or you death glare at them, whatever works.

3. We sniff our books. YOU KNOW YOU DO THIS. DON’T LIE TO ME. Books have an amazing smell, and if you’ve never smelled them before, I suggest you do it now. It’ll instantly relieve any stress you have and you’ll be in book heaven bliss.

4. When it comes to book buying bans, we usually don’t last. I mean, some bookworm’s resolve are a lot stronger than others (not mine), so when they say they’re going to on a book buying ban until they read X amount of books, they actually do it. But some of us just…don’t…can’t do that.

5. If we really love a book with all the fire of a thousand suns, then we’ll buy 4903249034 editions of it and proudly display them on our shelves. I have two copies of a couple of books that I LOVE WITH ALL MY HEART. Namely, ACOMAF and Fangirl. But I know of people that have four or six different copies of series like Harry Potter or The Mortal Instruments, or their favorite books in different languages.

6. Our bookmark collections can rival our book collections. Seriously, what bookworm do you know that has just ONE bookmark? I mean, I’m sure some do, or some don’t even use a bookmark, but for those of us that have bookmarks we have HOARDS of them. I think I have close to 50 individual bookmarks, if not more.

7. When we collect bookish merchandise we like to proudly display them everywhere. Between all the totes, buttons, jewelry, notepads, swag, and more that we get from publishers, events, online, or wherever, we have no choice but to display them in every crevice we can find!

8. We have an urge to perfect our preferred platform. I don’t know about you, but I have this intense urge to make my blog as aesthetically pleasing as possible (it’s still not where I want it to be yet), or make our videos look amazing, or our Bookstagram photos beautiful. It’s not like we’re showing off or anything, but we want people to keep coming back and not think our platforms look messy, right?

9. We want to connect with every bookworm ALL OVER THE WORLD, and that’s not a bad thing. Seriously, the book community is one of the friendliest and most welcoming I’ve ever encountered on the Internet. Even when there’s trouble being stirred up because we’re not perfect (I know, crazy, right?) we still try to be as civil as possible and make amends and be awesome friends again.

10. If we know there is a bookstore nearby, even if we’re in the company of others, we will somehow convince them to join us in our excursion to said bookstore. It’s like a magnetic pull to the stores. The books in the window just stare at you, cooing at you saying, “Come and touch our spines.” Okay, that got creepy really fast, but you know what I’m talking about.

What kinds of bookworm habits do you have? Do you agree with my list, or do you not do some of these things? Which habit are you most guilty of?

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookworm Delights

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people over at The Broke & the Bookish. Today’s topic is about our top ten bookworm delights, which are bookish things that makes us happy or grateful. I love this topic, so here’s my top ten:

1 . Book sniffing – I am a book sniffer, I’ll admit it. I love the smell of books regardless if they’re new or old.

2. When covers are aesthetically pleasing – We all know covers that aren’t this way, but when they are? Oh. My. Goodness. It’s like a rainbow has descended upon my eyes. Here are some of my favorite aesthetically pleasing covers:

3. Getting to meet an author – I mean, this is a given when the experience is a positive one, right? I think it’s awesome to be able to meet an author and talk to them about their book and get pictures with them. Here I am with Jodi Meadows (right) and Erin Bowman:

4. When books have bookish swag modeled after something in the book – Think The Hunger Games or The Mortal Instruments and how there have been necklaces made of the Mockingjay and the Rune. Things like that, or like scarves, bookmarks, etc.

5. Bookmarks – Honestly, who doesn’t love a good bookmark? My favorite ones are the magnetic ones with cute little designs like donuts, owls, breakfast foods, and foxes.

6. Reading a book that brings me out of a slump – Oh, it’s the best feeling when you find a book that just speaks to your soul and brings you right out of a slump. This happened a couple of times, but the one I remember most is The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.

7. When my husband reads a book with me – There’s a simple pleasure when my husband and I read the same books because then we can talk about it and it’s just so fun!

8. Book subscriptions – I found the joy of receiving book subscription boxes this year and I find that it feels a lot like Christmas every month when this happens. Though I’m only keeping one book subscription box for now, I’m still enjoying what I get because it’s always a surprise.

9. The bookish community – Yes, all of you lovely people make me smile and feel all fuzzy and warm inside. Without the community, I don’t know that I’d still be doing this, so thank you all for sticking around!

10. Deckled edges – There’s just something so satisfying about deckled edges… I don’t know what it is, but I just love the feel and look of them, like I’m opening an old tome.

And there you have it! Ten of some of my favorite bookish delights. I’m sure that there’s plenty I’m not thinking of, but I think this is a good place to start.

What kinds of things bring you joy? Do you like to read with others or collect bookish swag? Let me know!

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Things on My Wishlist

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, as hosted by the peeps over at Broke & Bookish. Today’s topic was a freebie, meaning we could pick whatever we wanted to talk about, and so I thought I’d talk about some of the bookish things that are on my wishlist! Now this doesn’t necessarily mean I will ever acquire these items, but I would still love to hope I would one day.

  1. Harry Potter merch – specially Hufflepuff merch. Okay, so, I am a Hufflepuff and every quiz I’ve ever taken EVER, including Pottermore (twice!) has been Hufflepuff. So I want some Hufflepuff merch because I want to show off my Hogwarts pride someway, somehow!
  2. More POP! Vinyl figures – So far all I have is Daenerys from A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, and I love her to bits! The one I got is one I hadn’t seen before, and it’s the one where she’s holding one of her little dragons and I just love it. I would love to get more figurines, specifically of Hagrid, and any other cool ones I want. Heck, they don’t even have to be book related, I just want moreeeee.
  3. Bookworms – I’ve seen them on Etsy and I really want a felt or fabric bookworm to chill on my shelf and make his home there. Because, why not? I’m pretty sure it’s an essential. Specifically this one.
  4. Bookmarks – Like my collection isn’t big enough already, but I’d love more bookmarks! My favorites are the little magnetic ones because they’re a lot harder to lose than regular cardboard ones. But really, any will do!
  5. A tattoo – Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Isn’t that a little extreme?” Well, yes, it is. But my love for reading is endless and forever, so why not commemorate that with a tattoo? I’m not saying it’ll happen any time soon – if at all – but a girl can dream. Just look at these cool ones.
  6. A bookish phone case – I’ve been mulling over this for weeks now and I just really want to get one. There’s actually a booklr, books-cupcakes, who has a Redbubble shop and I really want this design. I think it’s perfect and feminine and lovely.
  7. Posters – I have a serious lack of posters of books lying around. I’m not really a poster person much anymore (mostly because I don’t want to hang anything up on the walls in my apartment), but that doesn’t mean I won’t appreciate the thought of them!
  8. Book charms – You know those necklaces or bracelets with charms on them and they’re mini versions of books? Yeah, I want one of those. Which book? I have no idea. Actually, I do, and it’d be the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas, and if I had to pick one book, it’d be Queen of Shadows. >> Okay, that was too easy.
  9. Journals galore – This is sort of bookish, but I love journals. I love to collect them, and even if I don’t write in them I love them. Just the idea and possibility of writing in them and filling the pages excites me – I just never know what to write in them!
  10. Bumper sticker – Are there book bumper stickers out there? I’d love one and stick it to my car proudly.

So there you have it! My bookish wishlist. What are some of the bookish things that you wish you could have? Let me know!

Do You Ever…

Want to just say “screw it” to your TBR for the month and read whatever you want?

Want to read every single book on your shelf at the same time?

Rearrange your shelves like there’s no tomorrow?

These are some of the things that have been plaguing me the last several days. I just haven’t wanted to read the books I had planned for my TBR this month, even though there’s only three of them, and I’ve already read three books not on my TBR, so it’s not like I lost out or anything.

I just have this strong urge to rebel against myself and say, “HA! I’m going to read what I want!” And, well, that’s kind of the idea, right?

My only problem is: every time I go to pick up a book, I can’t make myself read it. Maybe it’s a nagging feeling about not reading the books I said I’d read for the month. Or maybe it’s just that I’m in the mood for something else. I’m not sure, but it’s driving me crazy.

AND THEN. I literally want to read every single book I haven’t read that are on my shelves right now. I want to explore these new worlds and learn these new characters and fall in love and hate and cry. Like, seriously, these emotions are strong.

But in reality, I know I can’t read every single book at the same time because then 1) I’d be overwhelmed, 2) I’d most likely mix up characters/worlds/plots/etc, and 3) ain’t nobody got time for that.

And the rearranging the shelves thing… I just want to make them look prettier. That’s really the least of my worries right now.

Have you ever felt like this? What do you do to satisfy yourself? What works for you? Do you just jump right into another book or try to really stick to a set schedule? Sometimes I just need to take a break and watch Netflix or play a video game or just do something else so my brain can reset. Do you ever find yourself needing to do that, too? Let me know!
