  • Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish People You Should Follow on Twitter

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people of The Broke & the Bookish. Today’s topic is kind of like the shout out tags I’ve done before [part one & two], so I’m pretty pumped about this one! I love being able to shout out people who I think deserve it, and so here I am with some of the people I think that you should definitely check out on Twitter.

Twitter is one of those social media sites that are great because you can connect easily with so many people and discuss things (like books) in as few as 140 characters. Pretty sweet, right? Well, there are a lot of bloggers/booktubers/bookstagrammers/etc who use Twitter and link to their reviews, and even then they still talk about books. Here are the ones you should check out:

    1. Annika @ HidingBooks – She’s a lovely person from the UK who talks about books and how much she wants to finish series even when she doesn’t own them. She even hosted a sporadic readathon over Easter weekend because, hey, why not?
    2. Cait @ PaperFury – If you aren’t following her then what are you doing with your life? She’s SUPER funny and witty, always posting about booknerd problems. Plus, she gives out cake freely.
    3. Nori @ ReadWriteLove28 – She’s a funny gal who hosts the Twitter chat #RQWN which stands for “Random Questions with Nori” which are really fun and weird and different.
    4. Ezrah @ iheartromanceya – She’s all over the book community, I swear. She’s very friendly and easy to talk to, and I think she’s just a great person!
    5. Jayvee @ jayvwrites27 – She’s such a fangirl and I just love her enthusiasm for many, many things. Whenever she answers questions she answers them IN CAPS, and they often make me laugh.
    6. Cee @ thenovelhermit – If you want comic book recommendations, she’s your girl. I always see her talking about comic books and recommending them and gushing over them. So yes, definitely check her out.
    7. Julianne @ OulandishLit – She started her own readathon/readalong for the month of March, plus she’s just sarcastic and funny. I’m finding a theme here.
    8. Jacquelyn @ jacquelynreads – She’s a really nice person who reads a TON of books. I’m surprised she even has time for homework or anything considering the sheer amount that she reads.
    9. Stefani @ StafaniSloma – She’s a librarian, which is super cool, plus she retweets a lot of different polls, giveaways, and blog posts.
    10. Hafsah @ hafsahfaizal – She has an awesome taste for talent in the graphic world, but she also does book reviews and other things with authors.

Who would you recommend and what platform are they on? Let me know and I’ll check them out!

  • TBR Takedown 3.5 TBR

The title sounds repetitive, doesn’t it?

So the lovely Shannon @ Leaning Lights is the host of TBR Takedown and it’s a relaxed readathon where you can read whatever kinds of books you want.

It’s running from April 8-10. (Starts at 12:00 AM on the 8th (YOUR TIME) and goes through 11:59 PM on the 10th.)

There are also four challenges that are totally optional, and they are:

    1. Standalone – a book that’s not part of a series
    2. Most recent haul – your most recent purchase from your most recent haul
    3. Catch up in a series – an opportunity to catch up on that series you’ve been putting off
    4. TBR shelf over a year (or the longest) – you know the ones

There will also be daily challenges on Twitter! Follow @TBRTakedown and use the hashtag #TBRTakedown to participate. There will also be giveaways, so definitely follow the Twitter account for more details on that!

Alright, so let’s get to the TBR!

I’m going to read something from each of the challenges, but I think I may combine two of them together, and then the other two together, for a total of two books.

The first book I’m combining the Standalone & Most Recent Haul challenges:

This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp

    thisiswhereitends

    10:00 a.m.
The principal of Opportunity, Alabama’s high school finishes her speech, welcoming the entire student body to a new semester and encouraging them to excel and achieve.

    10:02 a.m.
The students get up to leave the auditorium for their next class.

    10:03
    The auditorium doors won’t open.

    10:05
    Someone starts shooting.

Told over the span of 54 harrowing minutes from four different perspectives, terror reigns as one student’s calculated revenge turns into the ultimate game of survival.

This sounds like it’s going to be a very controversial book, but I’m definitely interested to see how it goes and if I like it. I’m hoping it’ll be a fast read as I have work and Camp NaNoWriMo that I’m participating in.

The second book I’m combining the other two challenges: Catch Up in a Series & Been On the Shelf 5ever.

    Splintered by A.G. Howard

    splintered

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence.

Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

This has been on my shelf for probably a year and a half now, and as it’s the first book in a trilogy, I think I should read it. Since reading Alice by Christina Henry, I’ve been thinking about reading this one, so I’m excited to get to it.

And that’s all I have for this weekend TBR! I’m hoping I can finish both of them in the three days, but I’m not going to worry too much about it. I’ll let you know how I did in a wrap-up post next Monday.

Are you participating in TBR Takedown? What books do you plan on reading? What’s your most anticipated read for this readathon? Let me know!

  • Rayna Recommends: Swoony Reads

Hey guys, welcome to another installment of my sporadic series, Rayna Recommends! This is a time where I recommend books, movies, and TV shows to you based on the genre or type of books I wanted to talk about.

Today’s recommendations are swoony reads! What are swoony reads, etc., you ask? They’re books/movies/shows that I’ve found myself to feel all giggly inside because of the romance aspect within them. They make you squeal with delight when you think of the romantic relations within them, and you can’t help but smile.

  • March 2016 Wrap-Up

    march2016

Another month come and gone. In terms of reading I think this month was more productive than the last, which I’m happy about. So let’s get into ALL THE THINGS!

P.S. What do we think of the banner? I might start having one in some posts, but not all of them. Just playing around with my formatting, but do let me know in the comments what you think.
