Bout of Books 14 Day 3

Day 3 of Bout of Books has come and gone, and so far day four is going okay. I didn’t read anything on my TBR yesterday. In fact, what I read was:

  • Magic Bites: 45 pages

This is the first book in the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews and so far I’m enjoying it. I really wanted to start it since I just got it the other day.

But hey, at least I read 45 pages of it, which was about two chapters, I believe. I didn’t do my “one chapter per book” thing, though, so that was a bust.

Now, in terms of the challenge that took place yesterday, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play bookish MASH. I LOVE DOING IT SO MUCH!

So, here are my results:

In case you can’t read what it says: I’m living in a MANSION with WARNER in the REESTABLISHMENT as an ASSASSIN with ONE KID and an OWL. We enjoy using our WINGS to get around places.

I think doing book MASH is always super fun and it’s always like I’m reliving part of my childhood whenever I play the game.

How has your reading time been going? Mine’s been off and on, but I’m enjoying what I’m reading when I read it, so that’s always a plus, right?

Bout of Books 14 Day 2

So yesterday (Tuesday) was day two for Bout of Books, and I didn’t really read that much because, well, it was my birthday and I was busy all day. Heck, I’m going to be busy all day today, too, but I’m going to try to find time to read a bit.

My progress yesterday consisted of this:

  • The Final Empire: 0 pages
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: 0 pages
  • A Thousand Pieces of You: 0 pages
  • A Game of Thrones: 10 pages
  • Forbidden: 18 pages (this wasn’t on my TBR for this readathon, but I wanted to start reading it to see what it’s about)

So I read a total of 28 pages, which was two chapters between two books. Not too bad. At least I’m keeping with my goal to read at least one chapter from each book I read. So yay for that!

I’m finding that reading multiple books at the same time is 1) nice in a way because I can read more and get books done (sort of) faster, but I also find that 2) I don’t really remember a lot from what I read previously. I mean, I can remember more as I read more into the next chapter or skim the last few sentences of the previous chapter, but I’m using this as a test run to see if I want to just be a “one book at a time” reader or a “multi-book at a time” reader.

Also I participated in the challenge that took place yesterday, which was like a form of a book scavenger hunt. What we had to do was:

  1. Find a book that begins with “B” (for mine I chose “Blood Promise” by Richelle Mead)
  2. A book you’re planning to read/currently reading for Bout of Books (for this it’s, well, A Game of Thrones, HP & the Goblet of Fire, and The Final Empire)
  3. Blue Book(s) (heheheh…heh.. yeah, that’s not even all of my blue books)
  4. Books from your favorite genre (my fave is fantasy, and there’s a few in there)
  5. A book on your TBR shelf, or your full TBR shelf (I put “Days of Blood and Starlight” by Laini Taylor at the top, but almost all of the blue books are on my TBR)

I was crying on the inside because I was afraid my stack of babies was going to fall over.

So, yeah! That’s my Bout of Books day 2 update. I’m enjoying this round of the readathon, for sure, and I’m excited to keep going and to keep on participating in the challenges and whatnot.

How’s your reading coming along? Have you participated in any of the challenges? Do you read multiple books at once, or are you a one book at a time reader? Let me know!

Bout of Books 14 Day 1 + My Birthday

Hey, today’s my birthday! I turned 24 today and it wasn’t a horrible day, but I did work the majority of the day. AND THEN IT GOT BETTER. My husband spoiled me and got me a card, gift card, seven books, two bookmarks, and paid for our dinner at Olive Garden. Suffice it to say, I have the best hubby ever. ❤

I got the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, books 1, 3-7 (book 2 has been ordered) and I hope I like it because I got the full series. I got it because of a recommendation video from a trusted reviewer, so I’m really hoping I like it!

I also got the third book in the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo in paperback – now I can finally marathon it!

And two awesome bookmarks. I love the blue one. xD

Anywho, what about Bout of Books!? Well, the first day went really well! Here’s my progress so far:

  • The Final Empire: 9 pages read
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: 27 pages read
  • A Thousand Pieces of You: 11 pages read
  • A Game of Thrones: 0 pages read

Hey, I read three chapters over the course of three books, which is great! That’s a total of 47 pages read yesterday! Woo!

Oh! I also participated in the challenge for yesterday, which was to find 3-6 books that take place in other countries that aren’t the one you live in. Here’s what I came up with:

Today, day 2, my current progress is 18 pages in “Forbidden” by Kimberley Griffiths Little. It’s not one of the books on my TBR for the readathon, but I wanted to start reading it to see what it was about. So far it’s interesting.

So far I’m doing well! But since it’s my birthday today, reading’s being put off for a little bit. But I think that’s a perfectly valid excuse!

If you’re participating in Bout of Books, let me know how you’re doing! If you’re not participating, let me know what you’re currently reading!

As for my TBR… I’m going to try to read a bunch of books at one time. I’ve been trying to for the past week or so, and even though one books has my attention more than the others, my goal is to read at least one chapter from at least two of the books listed below per day.

So, what I plan on reading:

Ambitious pile, right? That’s why I’m only aiming for one chapter per book per day, or whatever I can manage to do.

Let me know if you’re participating in the readathon! I’d love to know what book(s) you’ll be reading this week!

Themeathon Week 2 Wrap-Up & Week Three Beginning

Hey, we made it through week two of Themeathon!

Week Two Wrap-Up

thewrathandthedawnThis week was a tough week for me and so I didn’t manage to finish the book I was reading, but I’ll keep reading it until I do and all that jazz. This will cut into the book I was planning on reading for week three as there is also another book I’ve been dying to read since I got it last week, so we’ll see if I actually get to this book.

P.S. I’m also in a reading slump.

The book I was supposed to finish reading was “The Wrath & the Dawn” by Renee Ahdieh, but I am only just over 25% of the way through as of this moment, and so I will continue to read it until I finish it.

Dangerous Love: For this week’s theme this entire book’s plotline fits the bill because it’s about a girl who volunteer’s to become the next queen because the king has a new wife every night who is supposedly killed and then he takes a new one.

I, unfortunately, do not have a poem for you because I haven’t finished the book and therefore I don’t know the love interest very well. I can gather a few things about him, but I don’t know enough to write a full out poem. Next week I’ll include a poem in my wrap-up for the week.

Week Three: July 17-24

harrypottergobletoffireIt’s all about the villains you love to hate in this week’s themeathon challenge, and so my pick for the week was to finish “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by J.K. Rowling. I am about 14% of the way through right now, which isn’t far, and it’s a really hefty book so I’m not sure that I’ll be reading it this week.

We all know the villain(s) we love to hate in this series, right?

Mini-Challenges:

  • Describe the book you chose with emojis on Twitter.
  • Write a haiku of the villain in the book you’re reading and share it on your blog/Twitter/wherever.
  • Watch a book-to-movie adaptation of said book, if there is one.

If I’m able to, I will do my best to complete all of the mini-challenges, but I’m not sure that I’ll even get to this book this week. Fingers crossed I will!

The Twitter reading sprint will be:

  • Wednesday, July 22nd @ 3:00PM EST until 6:00PM EST
  • I should actually be able to make it for this round.

Let me know what you’re planning on reading this week, I’d love to hear!
