Love-a-thon Mini-Challenge #7: Let Me Sing You a Love Song

2017-love-a-thon-graphic

Hello lovely people and welcome to Love-a-thon 2017, hosted by these lovely ladies: Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books, Cee @ The Novel Hermit, Kristin @ Super Space Chick, and Mel @ The Daily Prophecy.

Welcome to the second to last mini-challenge of this event! I’m having a lot of fun doing these challenges, as I hope you are, too, and I’m sad that there’s only two left. But for this challenge you bring in your musical talents and dedicate a love song (or two or three or ten) to your favorite characters and tell us why.

Okay, here are three of my favorite characters and the love songs I’d dedicate to them:

Aeduan from Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

I would dedicate My Immortal by Evanescence to Aeduan. This is more of a tragic love song than a romantic one, but I think it really fits who he is as a character. Plus this song is just beautiful and I love it and him so it works.

Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

I mean… do I really even need to explain this one? I’m pretty sure I’m one among many who would want to dedicate this song to Rhys, let’s be real.

Okay, those are the only characters I could come up with for love songs. I was seriously having a hard time and my mind decided to forget every long song I’ve ever heard. Oh well, at least I got two!

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

Who would you dedicate a love song to? Would it be a sad song or a happy one?

Hobby Corner: November MUSIC Edition

hobbycornerbanner

Welcome to another edition of Hobby Corner, a monthly edition I introduced to talk about my hobbies and interests other than reading. It’s always important to not forget these things, so here I am to talk about some of mine.

This month’s topic: music!

Everyone listens to music in some form or another, so I think we can all relate to this one in some way. I’ve listened to all kinds of music and my tastes have changed over the years, but I’m always keen on listening to pop music of many kinds. But not only do I enjoy pop music, I also enjoy musicals, K-pop, J-pop, instrumental, electronic, dance. Pretty much anything with an uplifting or cool beat I like.

So today I’m going to talk about some of my favorite music! Each is in it’s own classification, so here we go:

Owl City

owlcity

Owl City has been my favorite artist for several years now. I love the albums he puts out and I find them to be so fun and easy to get into. My favorite album is Ocean Eyes as it has some of my favorite songs like Vanilla Twilight, Fireflies, and Tidal Wave. Really, the whole album is amazing, but those are a few of my favorites. I’d classify him as electronic pop and I really suggest giving a listen!

Hamilton

Is anyone surprised this is here? Anyone? I didn’t think so. I am OBSESSED with this music and I really, REALLY want to see the musical. It’s amazing and I love how it tells some of the history behind America, of course with a little tweaks here and there. It’s crazy. I listen to this soundtrack on a weekly basis, if not daily, and I’ve memorized a lot of the words to most of the first act, and a few parts of songs in the second. It’s amazing and my top favorite song is My Shot, but I also love Right Hand Man, Satisfied, and Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down). Just watch this performance and tell me you don’t want to see it live:

Lindsey Stirling

shatter_me_album_art

Lindsey’s been around for a while. She’s even performed on America’s Got Talent – and then they didn’t think she’d go far with her violin playing and dance moves after a while. Oh how wrong! Her music is uplifting, powerful, they tell a story, and they’re so fun. Shatter Me is probably my favorite album of hers that’s out and I love songs like Shatter Me, Roundtable Rival, and Heist. Definitely check her out because it’s so good!

Top 5 Wednesday: Book Theme Songs

Welcome to another Top 5 Wednesday as hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. Today’s topic is our top five book theme songs that we associate with books. So this can mean matching the lyrics to the book, if the tone fits the story, or because we listened to it a lot while reading a book. These aren’t really in any particular order, so let’s jump right in:

5. Bring Me to Life by Evanescence for Shatter Me

shatterme

Alright, let’s just all appreciate the gloriousness that is Evanescence, okay? If you listen not only to the lyrics of this song, but also the tone of it, I feel like it really matches the overall theme of this trilogy. It starts out kind of melancholy like how Juliette is at the beginning, and gets more intense as the song continues.

Lyrics:

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul my spirit’s sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I’ve become

4. Demons by Imagine Dragons for Daughter of Smoke & Bone

daughterofsmokeandbone

Look at the lyrics of this song! I mean, a lot of this trilogy is about monsters and angels and having secrets. There’s so many good lyrics in this song that I think really fits well with Akiva and Karou, especially.

Lyrics:

When the days are cold
And the cards all fold
And the saints we see
Are all made of gold
When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood’s run stale
I wanna hide the truth
I wanna shelter you
But with the beast inside
There’s nowhere we can hide
No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come
When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close
It’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide

3. We Are Giants by Lindsey Stirling (feat. Dia Frampton) for The Raven Boys

theravenboys

Okay, after thinking about it and listening to this song, I think this song fits the characters in this book so well because they’re all misfits in their own rights, but they are also all bigger than life in the group that they form. And then I think that the beat of the song really encompasses the feeling of the book.

Lyrics:

Do you feel like you’re second-hand?
Do you feel you’re afraid to stand alone?
Cut away every safety net
Live your life so you won’t regret the road
Feels like you’re standing there so small
Just the space between the stars
Don’t be afraid to risk it all
Cause we are we are
We are giants
We are giants
We are giants
We are we are
We are giants
We are giants
We are giants
We are we are

2. I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift for Their Fractured Light

theirfracturedlight

I had to pick this song for this book in particular because Gideon and Sofia are both trouble and when they walked into each other’s lives? Oh man.

Lyrics:

Once upon a time a few mistakes ago
I was in your sights, you got me alone
You found me, you found me, you found me
I guess you didn’t care, and I guess I liked that
And when I fell hard you took a step back
Without me, without me, without me
And he’s long gone when he’s next to me
And I realize the blame is on me
‘Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I’d never been
‘Til you put me down, oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I’d never been
Now I’m lying on the cold hard ground
Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble
Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble

1 . Shooting Star by Owl City for A Court of Mist and Fury

acourtofmistandfury

Other than the fact that this song has shooting stars in it and the book does, too, the lyrics itself I think really fit with Feyre and her mental illness in this book. She struggles a lot in the beginning, but with the help of a strong support group she realizes just how strong she is.

Lyrics:

Close your tired eyes, relax and then
Count from 1 to 10 and open them
All these heavy thoughts will try to weigh you down
But not this time
Way up in the air, you’re finally free
And you can stay up there right next to me
All this gravity will try to pull you down
But not this time
When the sun goes down and the lights burn out
Then it’s time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are
Fill the darkest night with a brilliant light
‘Cause it’s time for you to shine
Brighter than a shooting star
So shine no matter where you are tonight
Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh
Brighter than a shooting star
Shine no matter where you are tonight
I loved this topic! It was also a lot more difficult than I was expecting it to be. But I think that songs are so powerful because they can fit so many different stories as well as tell many different stories.

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

What are some songs that you associate with books or characters? Do you think that music can really tell its own story? When you hear a song do you automatically think of any characters from some of your favorite books?

Top Ten Tuesday: Songs I Wish Were Books

Hey peeps and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people of The Broke & the Bookish. Today’s topic is all about music, and so I wanted to talk about songs that I wish were books. I’ve actually never really thought about this until now, but I think this is pretty cool, so here are my selections!

  1. Enchanted by Taylor Swift – Honestly, who wouldn’t want this one to be made into a book? A girl who’s just trying to get by in her day sees a guy (or girl) across the way, their eyes meet, and then it’s fate. I mean, it’s been done before and everything, but that still doesn’t make it any less adorable. I needs it.
  2. Halo by Beyonce – I think that this one could make a really good angel story because, well, it’s about someone who is so good inside and out, and the lyrics even say, “Standing in the light of your halo / I got my angel now,” so why not have it be about angels?
  3. Where Are U Now by Skrillex & Diplo with Justin Bieber – I think this would be a good book about maybe siblings that had a falling out and maybe one goes missing or something and the other has to find them and try to make amends. I can see it being either a thriller or a contemporary kind of book, really.
  4. If I Die Young by The Band Perry – This would be a pretty melancholy book, but I would want to know why this girl died and how her family copes with it. I think it could start with her funeral and then backtrack through her life and her accomplishments and shortcomings. That would be interesting, really.
  5. Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen – You know you want this song turned into a book. It would be a cute YA contemporary about a girl pining over a boy and how she really wants his number and to date him and stuff. Classic.
  6. Vanilla Twilight by Owl City – This one would be a cute one that I think could take place in the future and that it would be about a couple who are separated over a great distance and they both look up at the sky and just think of one another, reminiscing over the time they had together. Ahhhh, so cute. I can’t even. Well, it’s cute in my mind anyway, haha!
  7. Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling ft Lzzy Hale – I think that this one would be a good one about overcoming obstacles in your life, or trying to escape the life you might be leading and change it for the better. This one can be a powerful one. Maybe throw in some steampunk elements if you feel so inclined, but yeah.
  8. Bright by Echosmith – This would just be a cutesy romance about a guy and girl falling in love. If you want to spin on it, since the lyrics talk about Neptune and the stars, make it a sci-fi and about him sprinkling stardust on her pillowcase, as the lyrics go.
  9. Sofi Needs a Ladder by Deadmau5 – I think this could be a good rebellion song, like a bunch of teens or something going up against some kind of enemy. Or maybe just one person taking on the world, and by world, I mean their own enemies. This just sounds like a cool soundtrack that could be listened to with a variety of different scenarios. I can just imagine a very sarcastic, witty protagonist with this song.
  10. Closer by Ne-Yo – This would be New Adult to Adult in age, for sure. This is a more sultry song and so I can totally picture the sexy times for this one.

There you have it! This was actually harder than I thought because I was stuck on what songs to put for the longest time.

What songs would you want to be turned into books? What kind of plots could you see forming with them? Let me know!
