October 2016 Wrap Up

THIS IS HALLOWEEN, THIS IS HALLOWEEN!

Now I can actually sing that.

The month of October was a pretty good one, and I feel like it’s going to be a good end of the year, too. I mean, not a whole lot went on, but it’s my second vacation week now, so I’m pretty pumped about that. Plus, NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow and I’m really excited to keep working on my novel!

I’m trying out a new format this month for the wrap up because I feel like it’s too boring, honestly, and I want to share more and do more things with it. I’ve been getting inspired by other’s wrap ups, so here we go!

Fun Things

I’ve officially met my goal of 30 fantasy books read for the year! It’s incredible how well I’ve been doing so far this year. I’m having a great time and I know I’ll be reading more fantasy books as the end of the year draws close, so I’ll still keep everyone updated on the amount! Right now I’m at 31/30.

I’ve also have been doing a buddy read with the lovely Erica @ novelink_erica on Twitter and we’ve been reading Stalking Jack the Ripper. It’s really interesting so far and we’ve got a lot of speculation going as to who did what and what we think will happen. Expect a review up soon!

I’ve read 40 books this year! It’s crazy to think that I’ve read more books in the last two years that I have in my whole life. And I absolutely love it. ❤

Instagram

So if you didn’t know, I do have an Instagram where I focus on books 99% of the time. I’ve been participating in two challenges this month and I haven’t missed a day, so there’s lots of photos to check out! I feel like I’ve been greatly improving, which really makes me happy, and I’ve been having a lot of fun doing it. Here’s some of my photos I’ve posted this month:

Around the Internet

This is a feature I’ve seen in several other blogger’s wrap ups and I think it’s a fun way to show what else I’ve been reading/seeing around the internets!

Life Updates

  • I’ve been getting more into Instagram, as I stated above, and have learned that the Dollar Store is my friend. Book photo supplies are expensive, yo.
  • I’ve been thinking more and more about getting some tattoos that I really, really want but I’m waiting because reasons (and money), and also because I haven’t completely laid out a design yet for one of them. In case you’re wondering, one’s a quote from ACOMAF, the other is a bit of lyrics from Hamilton. I mean, is anyone really surprised? No? I didn’t think so.
  • I went to my workplace’s charity event to raise money and awareness for kids and young adults with mental illnesses, and it went really well! I couldn’t hear/understand the guest speaker the whole time he was talking, but there was a lot of inspirational moments and a lot of people there.
  • I’m on vacation this week! Which I’m glad for considering it’s the first week of NaNo. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a lot of writing done.

September 2016 Wrap Up

THIS IS HALLOWEEN! THIS IS HALLO– wait. No. Not yet.

How. Guys. How is it October already? I don’t get it! This year is going by in such a blur. And as for this month, it was a little better than August, though it’s been stressful and stuff, so here’s the things that happened:

What I Read

  • Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas – I loved it. So much. I hate that we have to wait another year for the last book (also sad that there’s only one book left *sob*), but the story is definitely getting more intense and I’m really enjoying it. 4.75/5 stars Check out my review!
  • The Goal by Elle Kennedy – I love this series a lot and this companion novel was really good! Lots of sexy times, lots of drama, but the characters were still awesome. 4/5 stars Check out my review!

Even though I didn’t “read” this book this month, I’m including it under this category because I did do a review of it. This was my first DNF review:

  • I Am The Reader Tag – Inspired by a recent release, I loved the questions for this tag and just had to participate in it.

I read one book that is fantasy this month, so that makes 29 out of 30 fantasy books read for the year! Woo!

Life Updates

  • My husband and I moved into my parents’ house at the beginning of the month for personal family reasons, so that’s been stressful. Luckily we’re all moved in and all of that, it was just a pain to pack and move as fast as possible before he had to start school this semester.
  • I’m stressed out like crazy lately, but I’m still trying to keep calm through a lot of what’s been going on. Lots of scary things that happened with my mom and stuff, but she’s doing better now.
  • I stopped my subscription for Uppercase this month because of the move and stuff, but I also want to resubscribe, now that I’ll be able to save more money… Hmm.

April 2016 Wrap-Up

Goodbye 2016, because you are just flying by! Another month, another wrap-up. This month was productive in some ways, but then again I also watched a lot of anime this month which prevented me from both reading and writing, so… maybe not as productive as I wanted it to be.

What I Read

Books I Started But Didn’t Finish

  • Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews – book #5 in the Kate Daniels series. I’m really enjoying it so far and the mystery behind what’s making the Masters of the Dead not be able to control their vampires anymore.
  • Asylum by Madeleine Roux – Scary things are too much for me, and add pictures to this and I’m freaked out. I’ll finish it one day!
  • Splintered by A.G. Howard – I’m really liking this Alice in Wonderland retelling a lot so far, with its goth/punk features and purple font. I definitely want to finish this soon!
  • The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – Yes, I’m finally starting this book and so far I’m enjoying it. It definitely has an atmospheric feel to it so far and I’m really interested to see how the story unfolds.
  • Water’s Wrath by Elise Kova – The fourth book is finally out and I started it and I’m so excited to read iiiiiiiit. I’ll definitely finish this soon.
  • The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows – I’ve wanted to see what this book was about for a while, and I’m enjoying what I’m reading so far.
  • Binge by Tyler Oakley – I started this sometime last year, and I picked it up for Genrethon this year, but only read a chapter. I’ll finish it one day!
  • Paper Hearts, volume 1: Some Writing Advice by Beth Revis – I can always use pointers and tips when it comes to writing, so I decided to pick this up this month given I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo.

Well, I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo this month and it was less than spectacular. I still got some writing done, which is good, but not enough to my liking.

Fun Things

fof-button-2016

So as for Flights of Fantasy, I’ve read another three fantasy-esque books/novellas, bringing my total up to 22 books! I’m probably going to pass my goal of 30 books, but that’s okay.

Life Updates

  • So I went to the author signing for Erin Bowman & Jodi Meadows out at Brookline Booksmith near Boston and it was a really fun event! Not only was the bookstore charming, but I got to get books signed and pictures taken with the authors, who were super sweet.
  • IMG_2954
  • More cute clothes from maurices is a wonderful feeling when you’re so used to not being able to find a lot of cute, flattering things.
  • We were going to adopt my coworker’s cat, but we ended up giving her back after a few days because a) I had bad allergies to her, b) my bird was not a fan, and c) she didn’t seem happy here, which means we weren’t happy, either. It was sad, but I’m okay with it because I’d rather her be happy and me not die of a stuffed nose.

So this month just seemed like it was full of memes and fun things, which isn’t horrible or anything, but I think it’s because of the challenge of Camp NaNoWriMo that made it difficult for me to post any more discussion topics or more reviews. I hope to remedy that for next month, though!

What was your favorite book you read this month? Mine was definitely The Raven King. (ALL THE FEELS.) What are some of your bookish delights? Did you participate in Camp NaNoWriMo? If so, tell me how your progress went!
