Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by Jana of That Artsy Reader Girl! Today’s topic is about books for armchair travelers, aka, books that can help transport someone from their own home to other places around the world (or in other worlds!) and experience different cultures, foods, locations, etc.

As I primarily read fantasy, this feels easy, but I’m going to do my best to choose a variety of locations and give a brief explanation as to what I think you can expect if you were to travel there yourself.

  • Tusk Love – Enter the world of Exandria, where magic abounds, ships can fly, and perhaps romance can happen in the unlikeliest of places.
  • This Woven Kingdom – Inspired by Persia, this story takes place in a variety of places, from the coldest of climates and blizzards, to the most glorious landscapes you could imagine.
  • A Psalm for the Wild-Built – A future world in which robots took over and then gave it back to us. A deeply introspective read and one that spans across a distance while you drink some delicious tea.
  • The City of Brass – Starting in Cairo, we travel across the Red Sea into the lands beyond, and though this is a fabled city, it is lushly inspired by the surrounding areas in the Middle East.
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses – Probably after the events of the war would be best, but Prythian is separated into various courts, each of a different season or element, so really, take your pick as to where you’d want to visit.
  • Saved a Demon – Now just imagine a world where monsters of various kinds and humans live together relatively peacefully and end up bonding with each other?
  • Imadoki! Nowadays – It’s Japan! It’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit, so of course I wanted to share here.
  • Shadow and Bone – Inspired by Russia, this dark and grueling place may be… a bit off putting at first, but it has its charms!
  • Before I Let Go – Atlanta! I hear there’s a lot to do there, though I’m from the north east of the US, so I have no idea lol
  • Barbarian Lover – Now listen… Minus the likelihood that you’ll die without getting an organism from the planet put into you, this frozen wasteland definitely sounds like a trip!

And there’s my picks for this week! I’m bummed I missed last week, but I just got busy and forgot to finish working on my post. Alas.
