Top Ten Tuesday: Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey peeps and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people over at The Broke & the Bookish. This week is all about what we’re thankful for because here in the U.S.A. is the week of Thanksgiving (which is on the 24th). So today I’m going to do two categories: a) bookish things I’m thankful for having in my life, and b) things I’m thankful for in my personal life. Let’s go!

Bookish Things I’m Thankful For…

1. I was able to attend three book signings this year. I think that that’s incredible because I haven’t been to a book signing since Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer came out YEARS ago. And each signing was a blast and much better than that first experience.

2. I got to meet my favorite author at one of those said signings. Sarah J. Maas was so sweet and so fun to listen to during her chat. I asked her what quote from her books I should get as a tattoo, and she named a few I already loved, and yes, I will be getting one soon.

3. Giveaways! Yes, I’ve actually won a couple, which is cool. They may have been swag or for a coloring book, but it was still cool to be able to win something since it doesn’t happen often.

4. Getting a subscription box almost each month. It’s always so fun opening the boxes and seeing what’s inside. It’s like my birthday is every month when I get one!

5. To have such a wonderful community to connect with. Seriously, everyone I’ve met in the book community has been amazingly nice, compassionate, and friendly. I’ve made some friends with people and I think that that’s so cool, how our common love of books brought us all together.

Personal Things I’m Thankful For…

6. Family. Things kind of took a major downhill turn in my family, but we’re coping and dealing with it every day. It’s not 100% better, but we make do with what we can, and that’s all we can ask for. And other than that, my family is great at caring and wanting to be there to help, which is great.

7. My husband. I know he can be lumped into the family category, but I want to put him in his own spot because I love him very much, and through all of the family stuff he’s been my constant rock and I appreciate him so much for that.

8. My best friend. She stepped up to the plate and offered to help when my family kind of crumbled, and I’m very thankful to her for that. She’s over every week, and she helps by just being here. I don’t know what I’d do without her and I love her very much.

9. I’ve been at my current job for over a year. I mean, I was at my previous one for almost six years, but still, this is a “big girl” job and I’m glad to say I’ve made it past the one year mark by a few months. I also appreciate that I get praise and appreciated there because I’m an efficient worker and I get things done.

10. For this blog and the community that I’m in. As I stated before, this community is amazing and I love that I’m part of it. But not only that, but I’m just grateful that I’ve been running this blog for over two years, and I love it so very much. It gives me a place to feel like I belong, a place where I can go to be calm, a place that I can call my own and design and use how I wish. I’m so thankful to those who read this blog, comment, and to just have a space to call mine on the Internet.

Happy Thanksgiving! How do you celebrate? Do you have a big family gathering, or is it smaller and more quaint? What are you most thankful for this year?

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Movies

Hey peeps and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people over at The Broke & the Bookish. The topic for this week is a movie freebie, so we could talk about anything we wanted regarding movies. So I figured I’d just talk about my favorite movies of all time, pretty much. There’s so many great ones out there, but these all hold a special place in my heart.

1. Inside Out – When I first saw this movie, I sobbed. I sobbed the second and third time, too, because this movie touched a very special place in my heart. I loved how the creators decided to take the perspective from emotions and give it a twist. It was amazing how it was told and how it ended. It’s beautiful.

2. Zootopia – This was an especially important film that came out because it talked about racial division (or, in this case, species division), police brutality, Black Lives Matter, social norms, and more. It was incredible, and it was told in a fun story way in which I never lost interest and I needed to know what was going to happen next.

3. Princess Mononoke – This was my first PG-13 film, I think, and I saw it when I was seven. And it captivated me then as much as it does now. The plot is amazing and it speaks volumes even today, the animation is incredible, and the characters are some you want to root for – or strangle. It’s breathtaking and you should really watch it.

4. The Notebook – I mean… How can I not have this on here? As I love romance, this is definitely one of my favorite movies when it comes to romance. I love the story, the acting, the time in which it was set. All of it was incredible and excuse me while I sob because THAT ENDING.

5. Jurassic Park – I probably lied about the PG-13 movie thing, but I LOVE the Jurassic Park franchise (even though I haven’t seen the newest one yet…). I’ve always been into dinosaurs, long before I ever saw these movies, and they just enhanced my interest in them immensely. There was a time when I was a child that I would pour myself over books and internet articles and learn as much as I could about dinosaurs and the time in which they lived. This movie was amazing and was such a step from the norm of movies.

6. Howl’s Moving Castle – I’ve watched this movie so many times that I have a lot of the lines memorized. It’s kind of a problem. But I love this one to the moon and back and it’s honestly one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. The story, the animation, the romance, the characters, the art! It’s a masterpiece.

7. Spirited Away – Another Miyazaki film, who’d have thought. This movie has so much mystery and history and hidden gems that I love. It’s full of so much wonder, hope, and love. I love this movie so much.

8. Up – This was the movie I saw on our one year anniversary of being together back in the day when my husband and I were dating. We make it a point every year to see whatever Disney movie has come out, even though we may have missed a few. But this movie is one that I love because the characters are so funny, the story is both heartbreaking and hopeful, and it’s just a great tale of achieving dreams.

9. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens – This. Movie. Was. Epic. I loved it so much. The second time I saw it I enjoyed it so much more and I think it’s just one of those movies that gets better the more you see it. It touched on the nostalgia of the earlier movies while giving a new storyline and awesome characters. Seriously: love it.

10. Wall-E – This was actually the first movie I saw with my husband when we first started dating. I think it was actually our first date. xD I love this movie for what it talks about because I love our earth and we need to do what we can to keep it safe for everyone and everything on it. Plus the animation is incredible and the story is captivating, too.

11. Kiki’s Delivery Service – More Miyazaki! Kiki is such a fun, heartwarming story of a young witch going out in the world trying to discover her potential as a witch, and there are bumps along the way, but she learns from them and I think that it’s such a great story of hope and never giving up.

12. My Neighbor Totoro – This one is just so cute and I love Totoro! I love all of the symoblism that Miyazaki includes in his stories and how the animators are able to bring these stories to life is incredible. It’s such a cute story that includes two young sisters, their dad, and Totoro, a forest spirit. It’s a fun adventure and you just need to see it.

Well, this turned into a very Disney/Ghibli oriented posted, but I love both of those companies, so I’m fine with that. What are some of your all time favorite movies? Have you seen any on my list?

Top Ten Tuesday: Costumes Characters Would Wear on Halloween

Hey peeps and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people over at The Broke & the Bookish. Today’s topic was a Halloween freebie, so we could talk about our favorite scary books, non-scary books that would get you in the fall/Halloween mood, etc, so I decided to talk about what I think some characters would wear as costumes on Halloween if they celebrated it.

I mean, this is a fun thing, right? I can picture some of these quite clearly, so let’s jump right into it! Also, all of my fanart can be found on my deviantART page.

1. Cath from Fangirl would go as Simon Snow. I mean, that’s kind of hands down, right? Or maybe she’d go as Baz and make Levi go as Simon. OMG YES. I SEE IT. Couples costumes FTW.

2. Aelin from Throne of Glass would probably go as Marie Antoinette, with the huge dress, ginormous hair, the fan, everything. She’d own and rock it. And then she’d make Rowan dress up in a really frilly outfit, too, because he can’t be looking shabby next to her.

3. Rhysand from A Court of Mist and Fury would go as something goofy or sensual. It can’t be both, he’d go as one or the other. So he’d either go as a ghost (like, a sheet over himself with holes for eyes cut out), or he’d go as a sexy male pirate or something. And then Feyre would probably be Maleficent, like the Angelina Jolie version.

4. Warner from Shatter Me would probably go as a vampire. And it would be immaculate and impeccable and he’d given Aelin a run for her money. I can see a fight breaking out between those two… Juliette would go as a countess to match Warner and she would just watch from a distance as he and Aelin fought.

5. Shazi from The Wrath and the Dawn I could see going as Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender because they both have fiery spirits and I can see her not putting up with anyone’s crap (while also amazing everyone with her own magic). Khalid would be Ang to compliment Shazi’s choice.

6. Simon from Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda would go as Harry Potter, because duh. And then Blue would go as Draco and it would be every fangirl’s dream come to reality. Yup.

7. Nikolai from Siege & Storm would go as a pirate. Like, an actual full fledged pirate with the hook, the big, the big hat, everything. And then Alina would probably go as some Final Fantasy character, like Garnet from FFIX. I could see Mal maybe being Spider Man or some other sort of hero.

nikolai_lantsov_by_vampiressamilia-dam8kfh

8. Karou from Daughter of Smoke & Bone would go as an angel just to tease Akiva and then Akiva would just wear like cat or dog ears and a tail. It would be cute and hilarious and I need this in my life.

9. Laia from An Ember in the Ashes would probably be Wonder Woman because she is so strong on the inside that she needs to bring that to the outside. And then Elias would probably be, like, Iron Man. Or Batman. Either way.

laia_by_vampiressamilia-dam8rmj

10. The group from The Raven Boys would all be someone from The Wizard of Oz. Blue would hand make her own Dorothy costume, complete with red shoes and all. Gansey would be the scarecrow, Adam would go as the Lion, Ronan… well, they’d force Ronan to go as something, but he’d probably pick one of the flying monkeys just to piss everyone off.

I have such an urge to draw fanart of all of these costumes. These would be so fun to see and I think every person would have such fun going out to a Halloween party together.

What can you picture these characters going as? Do you think any of them would rebel against a costume? Tell me what you think your favorite character would wear out!

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I’d Name My Dog After

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people of The Broke and the Bookish! Today’s topic is all about characters that we’d name our children/dog/cat/car/etc with. I love this kind of topic, which is similar to one I did a few weeks ago and I talked about characters that I’d name my children after, but now I’m going to talk about my next important love: dogs.

I am such a dog person. I miss having a dog so, SO much. I love their noses and eyes and wiggly butts when they wag their tails and they’re the cutest things in the world. And these are some of the names that I’d probably name my dog after if I got one (if it didn’t already have a name that stuck to it). I’m going to separate between male and female, so here we go!

Males

  • Magnus – Take this name from whatever series you want, but I LOVE this name and if I can’t name my child it, then I’ll name my dog with it. It’s strong, it’s magical, and it’s perfect. And I’d name a golden retriever with this name just to throw people off.
  • Flynn – I know I used this for my child names, too, but I just love the name Flynn. It’s cute and fun and I think it would fit a dog like some sort of terrier. Like, a high energy dog that’s really cute.
  • Gansey – I would need a prim and proper dog because that’s honestly all I can think about when I hear this name. I mean, I love Gansey and he’s not completely prim and proper, but he’s very polite, so I’d hope to have a friendly dog with this name. I can picture like a King Charles Spaniel or something like that.
  • Gideon, or G for short – I actually think the name Gideon is really cute. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about it that makes me happy. And it’s the name of two of my favorite book characters, so there’s that, too. I can picture a mutt with this name, really. So cute.
  • Fitz – Another cute, spunky name for a terrier, in my opinion. Honestly, if the dog has high energy, I can just imagine it having this name. And the name just makes me smile when I say it, so there’s that, too.

Females

  • Feyre – Yup. I would do this. I do think that the name Feyre is really lovely and all of that, and it’s short enough that a dog would know that I’m calling her. I can picture this for like a German shepherd or a husky.
  • Vhalla – Hey, high fantasy names! You’re my favorite! I think the name Vhalla is just really pretty and I think it would more suit a setter kind of dog.
  • Shazi – From The Wrath & the Dawn, I think having a dog like a Shiba Inu or a long haired breed like a Yorkie or Papillion would be so cute. And hopefully the dog would have a fiery spirit to match the name.
  • Laia – I think this name is so pretty and even though I keep thinking Star Wars, I know that’s not the pronunciation of the name. Still, I think it’s fitting of a dog that’s like a Dalmatian or a Corgi. It’s befitting any kind, really.
  • Celaena – I know what you’re thinking, “Rayna, what are you doing?” BUT LET’S BE REAL, I’M TOG TRASH, OKAY!? And if I can’t name my human child Celaena/Aelin, then I’ll name my dog that. And she would be lovely and feisty and I’d love her to bits.

And there you have it! Ten names I’d name my dog IF I HAD ONE. One day I’ll have a dog again and if there’s not a name that sticks then I’m picking one of these, I swear it.

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

What character would you name a pet after? It doesn’t necessarily have to be a dog, but maybe a cat or bird or fish or lizard. Tell me the cool literary names you’d name one if it were a male or a female.

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Movie Villains

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday as hosted by the lovely people over at The Broke and the Bookish. Today’s topic is centered all around villains and we could pretty much pick whatever topic we wanted under that umbrella, so since I was having such a hard time thinking about book villains, I thought I’d talk about some of my favorite movie ones! I find that villains really enhance the story, and sometimes I can’t help but find that they become some of my favorites.

1 . The Joker from The Dark Knight – I love Batman. He’s my favorite superhero and as such, I loved these movies. They were brilliantly done and I absolutely loved Heath Ledger as The Joker. He was crazy, violent, creepy, and the perfect Joker, in my opinion.

2. Voldemort from the Harry Potter franchise – Now I grew up with this movie franchise like a lot of people grew up with the books. The first movie came out when I was ten and since then I have seen each movie many times and I never get sick of them. Voldemort is cunning, manipulative, scary, and a great villain. I feel like he’s portrayed well in this adaptation and I hope that as I continue to read the books that I’ll continue to see him get even badder.

3. Jafar from Aladdin – Jafar is an amazing villain. I love how he’s trying to squeeze his way into the Sultan’s place, how he uses his wits and cunning to get him places (and also the magic scepter helps), but I also like that he gets annoyed by Iago and things that people say, and he’s kind of creepy and greedy. But he’s still one of my faves.

4. Ursula from The Little Mermaid – I’d hate to be one of the poor unfortunate souls that go to her for any sort of help because she will not hesitate to ruin anyone’s happiness in the blink of an eye. I like that she’s driven to obtain a goal and that she uses a lot of sarcasm when she talks.

5. Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty – Now I really like the live action version of Maleficent, but the original Mistress of All Evil holds a special place in my heart. I find that her cruel intelligence and a need to destroy anyone because she wasn’t invited to a party is brilliant. She’s truly the Queen of Darkness of my heart.

6. Darth Vader from the Star Wars franchise – *breathes like Vader* I mean, do I need to say anything else? Okay, well, I grew up with this franchise too because my dad is a huge fan of it, plus he’s just a super strong villain with a tragic past and he’s all kinds of cool.

7. Gru from Despicable Me Okay, so Gru is more villain-turned-good, BUT STILL. He’s funny, he tries his hardest, he has a really sweet caring side, and I just think that despite all of his mistakes and upsets, he’s a great villain and adoptive dad.

8. Bane from The Dark Knight Rises – Bane is just pure anger and I think that’s what makes him so appealing. He’s strong, he tries to use fear as a motivator, and when that doesn’t work, he breaks people – literally. I think that that’s just one of the best qualities in a villain: that they’re not afraid to get the job done one way or another.

9. Yubaba from Spirited Away – She’s creepy AF, but she’s also cunning and twists what you say around to trap you. I think she’s a classic kind of villain and maybe that’s why I like her so much. Of course, I like her twin sister more because she’s good, but we’re talking villains here, and Yubaba is fantastic as one.

hades

10. Hades from Hercules – Ah, the sarcastic god of my heart. Hades is hilarious and doesn’t take things seriously, and when he’s fired up he’s literally fired up. I love his humor because it breaks up the seriousness of the movie, but he’s also got a devious side to him and I love it.

So there are some of my favorite movie villains! I know it was very Disney-centric but I was having the hardest time thinking about other characters. Seriously. But I do love each of these villains in their own ways.

Let’s Chat! ≧◡≦

Who are some of your favorite movie villains? Do you like any of the ones on my list? Do you prefer a villain to be completely evil, or have some sort of redeeming quality about them? Tell me all the things!
